PS2's unavailable...Any other good options in GT2 sizes?
I am not arguing
. When I got mine pzero's they were priced the same I had a choice and chose wrong. I don't drive in the snow heck my car was newer in the rain but once coming back from Colorado's concourse. All I am trying to do is save some grief for who ever buys the next set of tires and hates them as much as I did for 2 years. Get the PS2 and have pzero regret
PS. My cost on the Michelins was under 1600.00 from Prestige Porsche.

The summary seems to be don't get the old PZero.
My question wss,if the P Zeros were available at the same time as the PS2. Why didn't they select them vs selecting the PS2...do you think the PS2 was a better choice??? Does anyone know? Once this has been answered, yes it makes no sense to pay more for the same performance. I would guess that the PS2 were selected for the GT2 was based on overall traction vs life span of the tire / cost..... again, I went back to a full set of PS2 based on what my GT came with....and I only had 6k total miles on them but they were the OEM set up.
but then we also must take into account things, the more more obvious things ( endorsements, lets call them ?) like Mobil 1 oil stickers on the topside of our deck lids! is Mobil 1 0/40 the "BETTER" oil VS ( lets just say ) Castrol Edge for the sake of the hypothetical analogy?.. and i'd say "no"! i don't "believe" it is! i DON'T "think" it's the "better" oil, but i am fairly certain that Mobil Oil 'paid" or somehow compensated Porsche for that sticker to exist reminding us every time that decklid is opened that we should use that oil and ONLY that oil. ( the M 1 )
I think(?) we may have a similar scenario with the tires. the "02 gt2 came with PS2's ( you say from experience ) while my '02 "turbo" came with the P Zero assyemtrico as the oem standard fitment..
was it a "bought and paid for" "endorsement"??! or is the Michi 315/30/18 PS2 the "better" of the two tires, while in 295/30/18 the P Zero is/was! more than adequate to the "task". hence Porsche's decision to have the Pirelli be the OEM tire on at least the MY 2002's as they were on my other car, the "02.
who really knows! i think it's a mixed bag of all the aforementioned! that said, the Michi has ALWAYS ( had!! ) been my tire of choice for some 12 sets give or take.. but as soon as the rears became $544.00 EACH!
VS the $308.00 for the N rated Pirelli in 315/30/18, well.. i think you see how i reached the decision to exclusively run matched P zeros, all 4 corners. this even while running rwd allowing me practically run any combo of tires that will FIT!( whew..gotta love coffee

i "think"(!?) you've answered your own question. Porsche felt ( presumably ) that the PS2 was the "better" of the two tires, a notion with which i agree while admitting that to me? the difference in handling/ride/performance ( they are BOTH N rated! ) is negligible and not worth the price differential btw the michi VS the pirelli.

You must be (or have been) in sales
I opted for the PS2 because, mine came with them on my GT2. I figured that PAG would utilize the best for that car . Then, if I have a regular TT, mybe the PZ would be the way to go since it's all wheel drive. In the end, who knows
Per my post above - the old version doesn't have many fans. The new version DOES have a lot of fans.
The summary seems to be don't get the old PZero.
i personally had no quarrel or complaint about ANY of the pirelli's red logo, previous or the newer n4 rated blackwalled versions. i also see no difference in tread pattern.
i do, however have concerns that pirelli is now owned by a chinese company and i've never thought of that as a positive vis a vis quality.
but so far so good..made in germany, my current set.

here's another option....as Rob previously pointed out, Falken RT615Ks now available from Tire Rack.

They may not be as quiet or wear as long as the PS2s or Pirellis, but I don't think anyone has contested their performance.

you can't even make this sh*t up

If I were you guys, I would just buy 2 or 3 sets of the tires when they are available to account for the inelasticity in the supply chain. Problem solved. That's what I do, with pretty much everything when it comes to these cars..
