Falken RT615K @ Tirerack
#2
How do people address the load rating details for our cars? Looks like the RT615K is non-extra load rated? (hopefully its not one of those 'what type of oil is best' type topics...)
This is the first car I've owned that has that specific aspect to consider.

Good point on the 98, the oddness of the N1/N4 specs and the XL ratings is something I wasn't sure "required" a pairing of also when considering the tire selections.

for AWD 996Ts, the Falken RT615K 245/40/18 matches up nicely to the 315/30s...
245/40 25.6" tall
315/30 25.5" tall
The fronts will rotate slightly slower than the rears just like our stock sizes.
This is what I'm planning on running when my current tires are worn out.

My experience is these run pretty wide for the stated sizes.
Time to make sure you do this if you'd like to run the corresponding 245 fronts - https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ight=clearance

Not for those who roadcourse or otherwise demand a lot from the tires IMO, 600lbs less rear support than stock when using a LL rated tire

I know nothing on this subject but I know that what is stock is generally very conservative. You have me wondering though, what should be the ratio of axle load to tire load rating? Is the point if the ratings not to correspond with the axle load?

Load rating is what the tire can safely carry...let's say the average 'on-road/driving' 6TT is 3500lbs and 60%(conservative) of the weight is in the rear...1050lbs per rear tire, now apply a cornering or acceleration load, say shifting 15% of weight distribution =1312lbs per tire...that L.R. 91/1350lb rating just isn't high enough..
