Is there a "stepping-stone" market for highly modded 996TTs

What I mean by that, is there a market for people who know they want 1000HP+ to buy a car that is mostly set up for that (sans only motor + trans work, maybe larger turbos).

By no means is this definitive and I am not really considering selling, but before I go off the deep-end with a motor build I want to be sure I understand what other vehicles that money could put me into.

My guess is the market is slim. Me personally, I'd never by a 1000HP car as there are too many particulars involved with the build. However buying a car that is set up for it in every way, other than the motor and trans could be enticing for some

Quadcammer is infamous around these parts
I think there's a market for everything, but the price point is really hit hard by the small market. The market for 1000hp cars is tiny as is, but even smaller is the market for people who want to buy a chassis and ancillaries that are good for 1k hp, without the drivetrain.

I think your car is pretty badass as is. I'm not sure an extra few hundred hp is going to make it any more enjoyable.

I had a 700rwhp mustang for a while and while it was fun, it wasn't any more fun than when it had 500rwhp.

good luck

Vette mustang camaro even viper can be made faster for cheaper . Understand the money that goes into a 1000 hp build will be recouped. Its a losing battle. If you love doing crazy mods go for it, if not stay close to stock and enjoy the car

I'm certain its something I want to do, and am in a position to do. Just trying to think it through fully as to if I go big power, or go exotic. I think I'm answering my own question here, I've always kicked myself for getting out of a GT-R and Z06 too soon (basically at this same cusp). I will say, there is no other car I've enjoyed as much as the Porsche

There's a market for everything...but as others have said, the more highly modified, the smaller the pool of buyers is. Also, the more modified, the less money you seem to get back out of the mods.

I'd never dump that much money into building a car unless I'm going to keep it. Already did that on a bike and a Z06 I completely lost my a$$ on.

This 996 TT I'll be keeping, so I do plan on future power upgrades. Not 1000hp though. Completely unnecessary IMO.

650 crank is plenty for my needs.

agreed with the notion of the "sweet spot" being 650/700 crank for these, unless it's being specifically built for racing. but then i've never had or even driven a 1k hp 996tt, so i can't definitively say whether it'd be worth it for a dual duty car. i do however think you'd be seriously limiting your market should you choose to sell. i think "lose your a**" vis a vis costs pretty well sums it up.

all i'm certain of at my age, and for canyons comprised of 35 mph corners taken at XX 575 and rwd is quite E-NOUGH!

Well building a 997 turbo is twice as much so there is a price for built cars.

I think a built 996tt should for 50k around there or they can build it themselves and see how much they will pay.

considering what i paid for my 1000 hp build i would pay 50k$ for a built car all day long. bone stock 996tt sells for 45k all day

I think there's a value difference between a solid, well sorted build from a known, reputable shop and a "parts hanger" some owner slaps together. Maybe it shouldn't be that way, but that seems to be pretty consistent.

Cars that are big builds from Protomotive, EVOMS, AMS, bbi, etc etc seem to sell for relatively strong values in the secondary market. I would expect SRM to eventually be the same, but there probably aren't any known examples yet to prove that...

it really doesnt matter who builds the car. its a sad fact that mods bring MAYBE .50 on the dollar IF your lucky. considering the car costs 45k$ to start with, add close to 40k$ in a 1000 hp (motor, clutch, trans, suspension, saftey equipment, then the aero and cosmetic features your looking at 85,000$+ invested. since most dont have that kind of cash laying around your now hoping a bank will finance it. no way they finance the mods. most will finance 80% of the market value. there have been a few 1000 hp builds for sale on the forum. watch them. they start at 80k$ and steadily drop to market value then they sell. mods are given away or removed for sale seperately.

look at yumeravicks 1700hp 997 for sale. started at 280k$!!! been dropping the price ever since. beautiful car fully built by evoms. will be a very long time before it ever sells.

build a 1000 hp car because its what you love to do. if you want your money back buy gold not car parts.

Funny you say that, there was a big storm in NJ last night and part of was thinking through the scenario of if a tree fell on the car...until I quickly realized I'd be pretty upset if that happens

Totally agree, it can never be expected that mods really add-value. If you find someone that was going to do it anyway, then maybe $0.30-$0.50 on the dollar. What's sort of ruined it is that a lot of the modded cars for sale are up because they have issues (that aren't always mentioned).

I've seen in the GT-R world mods tend to bring a bit more, still not full recoupment through. Probably because most owners on that forum are already looking to mod.

For me, I've pretty much decided that I want to do the build. How badass would a high power Porsche be What got me thinking is that an R8 V10 can be had for ~$80K now, but i'd still want to mod it and even at full bolt-on it'd be slower than where I am now

to me its just a car. if ti gets totalled i make as much cash as possible off it buy it back part it out and move on. happened twice already.

80k builds your car. starting at 80k$ with a r8 can be made stupid fast( think ugr 2r build!) but the cost is 200k$+. of course we all build these types of cars because anybody can mod a vette and it gets lost on the sea of vettes at any track or car show. im always the only porsche at my dragstrip and fast or slow when i line up theres always a crowd! (some to cheer some to see a fail)
