Tarret & Numeric cup style cables, opinions.
I have stock cables with a 997SSK and for 95% it feels nice and tight, its just 2nd gear I'm not too sure of, 1st to 2nd and 3rd to 2nd are not as crisp as the other gears. It feels like there is some resistance and feels like its only just sliding into gear, all the other gears are perfect.
On my recent gearbox rebuild, all my sunchros were perfect, just the main pinion bearing was replaced. My car has traveled 135k km's so I'm pretty sure my gear changing/rev matching is fine.
2nd gear has alway been like this before & after rebuild.

Check the rigging of the shifter Jim. Put the gearbox in neutral, remove the shifter and clip the OEM green plastic centering tool onto the shifter. If properly rigged the centering tool should pop right on without displacing the shift lever away from it's static neutral position. If it looks like the shift lever is being pulled one way or another when the centering tool is clipped on, then you need to adjusts the linkage which is very easy once but you have to remove the console. The 997SSK comes with a green centering clip while the Cup shifter clip is white. If you don't have one, the dealer can order one for you. They are only a few bucks.
My mechanic said he has seen 3 cars with broken stock cables, 2 gt3's and 1 turbo.

Irish broke at least one set. I have a Numeric shifter and cables but am currently running the stock cables. I don't abuse the transmission but if I ever snap a cable I'll swap in the Numeric cables for sure!

My indie said the centering tool is no longer available from Porsche dealers, would you know where else I can get one from?
TIA
Jim, you should be able to order that pretty easily online.
Part number (for the 997) I is 00072196191. If you google "porsche shift cable lock bridge" and/or that part number you'll have some choices.
ECS has them if you want to go right to a source. https://www.ecstuning.com/ES1355918/...PJAaAo0b8P8HAQ

Re cup cables, on Phounds recommendation I am just trying adjusting my shifter for now as we're suspecting they're out of alignment. If that works out I might just leave it at that.
Tool arrived today safe and sound. Thanks you Dan, you're a true gentleman. If there's anything you need from this side of the world, please just let me know.
