Tarret & Numeric cup style cables, opinions.
Just an update;
Had my linkages adjusted, they were out in both directions, side to side and forward and backward. Gear selection is now greatly improved, going into 2nd is much better but not quite as good as the rest of the other gear selection.
My indie seems to think my cables have stretched.
EDIT; He also mentioned that the plastic bits in the shifter have worn and have some play in them. He's a big fan of full metal cup shifter and cables.
I'm pretty happy the way it is. I need to draw the line somewhere with my spending, otherwise its money out the door...

There is always these https://phenixengineering.com/shop/p...t-bushing-kit/ I have yet to buy a pair for my 997ssk, but figured they may help with what slop you may be encountering

I just did the Cup cables and they feel great, especially if you do motor and trans mount at the same time. Take the insulation off the stock ones with a razor and zip tie it tomthe Cup ones for a little vibration/noise reduction.
My shifts are perfect now, 2nd is really good and much improved but seems like sometimes it just needs that little extra help and I'm hoping these billet shift bushings will fix that. They're on their way, I'll report back when fitted.
Hey Jim... just catching up after moving...
One other suggestion I'd offer up is the "8mm ball" fix that has it's own thread here. https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...n-do-pics.html
Don't know what year your car is but I know my 01 didn't have the ball and when I installed it (actually I made a spacer on the lathe but same idea) it did make shifting feel more positive. Meaning when the gear is engaged it feels like it's ENGAGED not just slipped in.
Glad to hear you got things better. With the bushings, alignment and maybe the ball if should be much better.

I bought a set of numeric cables they worked for 2-3 shifts then they where toast. USP told me it was due to the fact that they where part of a test batch they promised me new ones but it took for ever to get the new cables. I would probably still be waiting for them if I didn't post my experience on this forum, that speeded up things. So in the end it was ok but I don't use them since I don't thrust the quality ..... all of course IMHO.
they sold you a TEST batch w/out disclosing it?! ^ incredible how the balance of *power* can shift ( sorry ) to the consumer with just some posts on the forums etc.
see vivid's recent jumping into the fray with their customer on that 4.0 stroker issue thread. it can be the great equalizer.

X2 installing those cables sucked
You gotta lube the hell out of the rubber grommet and bend the metal tab in the chassis back to make it pop in. Once you do that its actually not bad. I did it when the car was on the lift and it went on ok.
I got rid of a Numeric shifter that came with my car in favor of Porsche one because it wasn't really "better". Shorter throws don't make things better. BMW is similar, you can use their various shift rods to control the length of throw without buying an aftermarket one.

I don't agree with the "high and mighty" attitude of "factory only" either. If what was said above was true and Porsche made everything right the first time there would be no aftermarket for them and they would never have any issues. Hell Ruff wouldn't be in business either and maybe someone has bought a few Ruff parts???
