996 Turbo / GT2 Turbo discussion on previous model 2000-2005 Porsche 911 Twin Turbo and 911 GT2.

If you didn't have a 996TT right now, what car would fill its role and place?

Love The 458.
Thank you! It's actually a 360 spider with a true manual 6spd trans. It is about the same acceleration as the 996tt but it feels "smaller" and more agile driving it in the corners.....and the sound is intoxicating. They all drive/feel very different and I love that about them.

The 360 dynos under 300hp to the wheels. Ive driven both and the Ferrari doesnt feel anything like the acceleration of the 996tt.

I should have clarified, i suppose, as the FEEL of the acceleration is very different as to me, the 360 feels more responsive(and most dyno 330hp +/- 10hp) but the 996tt is the faster of the two....just not by a large margin is what im getting at.

Didnt mean to come across as rude. Love your 360. The sound, the look, and the stares you get are simply amazing. If it had a bit more power, I would certainly consider one.

C6 Z06 I think is still very good bang for the buck equivalent to the 996TT
I looked at F60 M5 and ISF before buying the Porsche, both were nice but didn't have the same potential.
Turbo Elise also, but I don't fit well inside :-(
And of course a nice big turbo supra.

Actually a very interesting topic because I have two similar value cars. I have a 2013 981 Boxster and my 2003 turbo. The Boxster has a lot of technology. It makes me want to sell both and get a 991 Turbo, they are still a little bit out of the budget. Or r8 v10. My current plan is to stick with the TT because I am very happy with the car. So I'm looking to upgrade the Boxster into a $50,000 price range fun car. Considerations are standard 991 coupe or an Aston vantage. I have a thought of an Audi S5 but that passed. I really like the fact the Boxster is under warranty still, it gets more attention than the turbo and people move out of my way with the LED running lights. This new body helps shed the chick car label (a little) but my friends still give me a hard time when I show up in the "Barbie" car.

996 GT3

A bit more expensive I know. I just love the sound of a N/A 911.

I had an E60 V10 M5 (6 speed manual) just before the 996TT, the sound was intoxicating. I simply did a muffler delete, tune, filters, and coil overs...the car handled like it was on rails (for the weight and size) and kept pulling well past 130MPH.

Mod potential is limited. After what I had the next step was headers, which was almost a $5K job with labor and then a supercharger which had reliability issues. It was a lot of car for ~$30K.
