FL2K prep

As some of you may know we're the ones responsible for the build of turbodanny's 996. We put this car together last year and it was suppose to be a raceware 10mm build shooting for 850-900whp. Well we all know how that goes. The car ended up making a little north of the 1000whp mark and was limited by fuel. Being that I built a lot of other platforms beside the Porsche boxer engine I never felt comfortable with the 10mm studs/stock piston & liners at the level(I know this is a never ending argument). This go around we went the 12mm route, forged piston& steel liner, I feel much better. We're shooting to have the car ready for FL2K in Bradenton, FL. Since there no shops in the Tampa Bay Area that are heavy hitters in the Porsche market we're looking to fill that void. Stay tuned we will post more pics of the build as it progress.

Stock pistons, sleeves and 10mm studs can go over 1000hp. Sounds like you leaned out the car?

With the forged stuff peope have still blown there motor. Its all about tuning and fueling.

I didnt say about 12mm studs. Just saying there is nothing wrong with racewares. People are well in the 1k plus hp range on 10mm studs.

I appreciate your opinion but this is the route that is best for us.

Hey Steve , have tims 10mm studs failed at close to 1400 whp and over 1000ft lb of torque? Yea correct , they have not .

Here's the deal , and this is by no means towards the builder on this thread ., but when you have Honda tuners or Audi tuners and all of sudden they decide they want to be Porsche tuners building motors and such ... There will be issues .big issues compared to real Porsche engine builders .

i agree tims motor are built rock solid. thats not to say he gives out how he does it to every builder. this particular build consulted with tim prior to the build and used orings and 10mm per tim. had issues. going with 12mm eliminates any need to remove the motor for a 2nd retorque and evoms hasnt had a single head lift since going to the 12mm setup and run in excess of 1500 hp . that in itself compensates for the added cost of the 12mm studs and machine work

I find it funny that every time something fails everyone blames the tuner. A Good Tuner tunes the motor, not a car. Everything was working perfect Motor wise, until I did a good hit and the head lifted on Kill mode. Did we push the limit? Obviously, but we learned the Raceware 10mm stud's limits. It's obvious that this could go back and forth forever, I guarantee that if I went with 12mm studs from the start this wouldn't have happened. The Myth that a Honda, Supra, GTR, Audi tuner can't tune a Porsche is just ridiculous. Plenty of "Porsche" tuners have had cars fail and you don't see on here nothing about it. Fl2k16 there will be some eyebrows raised for sure.
