I took it to / called a number of shops. Many shops ignored my calls, wouldn't give me a quote, etc.
Auto Strasse gave me an estimate for the transmission repair and the final cost ended up pretty close to the original estimate.
All in for the repair ~$1500!
I did opt to change the clutch, slave cylinder, rear main seal at the same time while in there so that bumped up the total bill... but definitely better than the $25k quote received from the dealer!
$1500 isn't too bad. Mine has been leaking a little since I bought it over a year ago. About 1 drop every 2 weeks of sitting. I've had the fluid changed twice in the trans and each time it was not below level so its just a minor annoyance and not a significant enough leak to cause appreciable fluid loss.

that is certainly good news! 1500$ does not go far in a shop toward porsche repairs. might i enquire of you, what all was done with the transmission for 1500?!
that's just over the "market value" cost to simply open to inspect and diagnose. in any event, good for you!

if it is any comfort at all? i lived with an rms leak for a cpl years while watching it very carefully. my learned rule now is..if it's a "seep" just keep any eye on it. if it's a 'leak"? it's "time", albeit a pita, if thats the only reason for dropping the trans.

Price seems fair to me! Maybe the price seemed so good after getting the $25k dealer quote! Plus, I was happy there was no additional internal damage in the transmission due to low oil level, etc.
I had plenty of gear oil on the garage floor after each drive so it was definitely time to get it fixed...
completely fair. time to r&r the box in/out is fairly put at 6-8.
but the part i can't understand is what they may or may not have done to the gearbox for $384! it has to be opened once removed and that sure isn't only 384 in labor lol...i would love to know what they did ( or didn;t ?) so i can yell at my tech but it matters not.
just don't ever go to another shop as long as your car runs and shifts, as it should! because you may have just won the "indy porsche shop" lotto

is it not just cover off, remove shift lever, replace seal, install shift lever? My understanding is that it didn't require touching any gears or bearings.

Nope... a number of gears had to come out of the transmission to get to the rod to replace the seal. So it isn't as easy as open transmission and replace seal.
The shop said they probably spent 6 hours replacing the seal, by two techs. they quoted me 3 hours and that is what they charged.
Thanks for the response TrailRider! Did the shop or anyone else say how serious of an issue this kind of leak is?
In other words, is it just a nuisance that “should” be addressed. Or, is it a major concern that needs to be addressed ASAP?
I reached out to the shop you took it to (thanks for that!) and Robert mentioned that it’s not a catastrophic issue.
Mine only started this week, with a few drops overnight. And nothing within the first 30 minutes after a spirited drive.
Any knowledge of signs I should look for for any damage? Shifting and gear engage is smooth as butter.
Thanks again!!!
It is a nuisance that should be addressed. Just make sure the tranny fluid level is topped up. It could become catastrophic if a majority of the fluid leaked out and you drove it around that way...
