997 Turbo
I do have to admit that porsche ponies seem very strong compared to other makes. The 997S is a very worthy successor to the 996 and the 997 turbo will no doubt be very impressive and superior to the 996 turbo, including x50, no matter what hp rating they choose.
I went to Ferrari because every one of the "911s", whether 996s or 997s, all look like the base model with a few minor tweaks. The 996TT was too refined and too civilized. Ferrari has it right with the F430. Unfortunately, the 997 TT spy shots look like a 997S with funky fog lights and an awkward, after-marking looking tail. No regrets going to the F-car.

Both the 993TT and 996TT were awesome ground breaking new cars. The 997 TT is too close to the 996TT to be exciting, especially when the 996TT has been around for so long. Porsche got fat, happy and complacent. A new 600+ hp Ferrari 599 looks better and better.

BTW the 600hp Ferrari has a hefty sticker price as well
seriously, why would porsche need to? They've always been at the low end of the game and have always continued to perform w/ the rest. Why is the magic 500# so important to people all the time?

In the hp war Porsche owners are going into battle with a peashooter. I understand that the new car will have variable vane turbos to fatten the tq. curve a bit, but the base 911 TT should have had at least 500 hp, & have an S model with 525+ hp. They already blew by their old hp increase model (20 hp every few years) as their standard turbo model will be 60+hp more than the previous generation TT. The only problem is that their competitors are adding 100+ hp on their cars. I understand the notion of the overall car, but overall means that you out handle, out comfort, and yes, out hp other cars.

in my point of view the new 997TT is going to be incretable... in performance and looks... don't mind the 450+hp ratings it is going to keep up with everything else on the market... i mean i have owned several Porsches and none of them had dissapointed me in any way what so ever... the 996TTS had 444hp and it kept up with cars like the SRT10, Gallardo, F430, and the new Z06 with out a problem... and now the new 997TT with 450+hp and better torque curve is going to blow the competition away... come on guys Porsche is not stupid and they will never be... from what i see from my 997C2S i have full confidence in Porsche for making the 997TT better than anything else on the road today within its price range... the 997C2S has 355hp and it will keep up with any 360 including the CS... and they all have 50 or more HP than the Porsche... so i have no doubt that the 997TT will keep up with anything with more than 450-600hp... and the most interesting part is that the new 997s drive so much i mean SO MUCH better than any 996 i have driven except the GTs... i will not give up and doubt Porsche... it is simply not the way Porsche does things in its 52 year history

Those that know, know, I prefer an enthusiast spotting my car if it is a turbo than the typical "oh It is a porsche."

The TT and 430 are looked upon as "competitors" but not everyone who can afford a 130K Turbo can afford a 200K F-car. It's like comparing Z06's to turbos. Car guys all want bragging rights and no matter what happens now or in the future, there will be people on both sides. If you like a brand it's OK to be disappointed in their products and you can vote with your wallet. There are plenty of great cars out there right now at all price levels. I'm just glad to be a part of this era.
I don't understand how you all can start blaming Porsche for not putting enough hp in the TT when they haven't even announced how much power it will have!! Or how fast it will be, which is the important question. Weather it has over 500hp or not is just for bragging rights. At least that's how I see it.
Isn't it more important how fast it is rather than how much power it will have? But even if it's "only" getting 460-480hp I'm sure it will have no problem whatsoever to compete with the lambos and f-cars in a straight line! cuz that's the only thing this hp discussion is about. What if it only gets 455hp and goes around the Nurburgring in 7.40? Then I'd say that Porsche has succeded.
Totally agree on the looks that it doesn't look agressive enough!
Now that's something to discuss!

All I have to say is get your ranting out of the way because you're all going to look like idiots when the new TT blows the competition out of the water.
The standard 997 C2S and C4S have been near the performance levels of the 996 TT and you're all worried about the new TT not being quick? Take your hp numbers and shove them because I'd rather have a very broad torque curve with only 455hp than a tiny torque curve with 600hp... not to mention competition overrating and porsche underrating hp numbers.

What people are forgetting is that these car manufacturers are releasing high hp, lower weight cars. The 997TT will be near the top of the weight scales vs the cars in its class or cars that it is compared to (F430, Z06 vette, Gallardo, etc).

With its heavier weight, I wouldn't be so sure.

I think getting 450-500hp from a 6 cylinder is pretty impressive. I would like the TT to trim down in weight to 3300 lbs and offer RWD only (without going GT2's barebones setup).
Looks wise, each 911 generation tends to improve after 1st intro. So, I think those pesky fog lights will be gone eventually. Intercooler vents like the 996TT will eventually return I hope
