What do you think of the future value of 996 turbo???
Really agree on the maintenance too, not often discussed. No moving parts. There is a lot of appeal there. When electric cars first came to market I thought they would be a good utility daily driver, low maintenance, no gas stations - great but no passion for me. Now the automakers have started to make them interesting. Some of the sporty cars that will be coming out seem to have a lot of potential.
Old car guys like us....in 10 years the kids raised n electric cars wont care about that stuff. For me its like the big huge cars from the 20s and 30s (brass era??)on the lawn at pebble.....I just do not see any appeal at all, could not give me one of those cars. The folks that really cherish those cars are all but gone. Same thing will happen with gas cars.

Millennials or Gen Z kids seem to have no interest in even getting driver's licenses. But who cares.
These trends predict the demise of uninteresting cars and the acquisition of great cars for multi-car households. I plan to live another 15 years or so, and have no plans to give up 400+ HP sports cars. Add up all the members of various forums on performance cars, and I believe there will be a viable market for years to come.
We've seen a recent resurgence in 996TT prices (up to 50% of original MSRP) and I expect there's another +10% to be realized.
I'm a millenial in my 30s. A real car nut who drives his loud, catless, mufflerless 911 turbo from FL to NY regularly. I love cars. Guys like me and my true car friends aren't going anywhere. Maybe you're talking about the new Gen Z kids, but not me. There's a lot of downsides to electric cars that get overlooked.
Yes there are downsides like weight, battery range, and battery over heating. What if these issues are overcome 10 years from now? 9 and 10 second electric cars will be common, gas cars will be badly outperformed by them. I'm 34 and I can't wait. These cars will be so much faster with no maintenance, no blown transmissions, easy modding, and amazing performance. On top of that you can have a few too many drinks at the game and it will drive you home.

I don't know about the modding... there isn't a lot you can do to an electric motor to get more power and adding more battery wouldn't be easy or cheap either. The value in these cars will be that they still sound like cars! Porsche - there is no substitute!
Also super high voltage, and wait until you have to change the batteries. May as well just throw the car out.
All of this stuff will get better and cheaper as all technology does. Right now there are just a few electric cars, it is still very early stage. By 2022 there are going to be more than 100 models out! You will all change your tune once you get mopped up by a stock 9 second electric sports car with instant torque off of the line and killer top end speed. Right now the Tesla p100d will go to the track and run a high 10 in good conditions, and that's not even a car built for all out performance. That's embarrasing for any gas car enthuiast. This is like the propeller plane era turning to the jet age. There is no comparison. Electric cars have tons of performance potential. You will all want to change over. The market for gas cars will fall.
We are seeing pristine, low mileage examples are commanding big dollars.
Even mid mileage cars like mine are holding value and no longer depreciating.
It's good to be a 996 Turbo owner !
I have a straight cut box in my seven and I love the whine, just as much as I love the induction roar through the bodies at full chat.
It will just be a different sound.
Just like no one misses the scratch at the start of a record or the sound of thundering hooves, engine noise will just be another thing in the past.

Engine noise is what makes a sports car or exotic car. When your at a light and a Lambo is next to you, you crack your window and say, wow that car sounds really good and then pulls away and sounds even better. If your next to a electric car, roll down your window and say, what the hell is that and roll it back up. VERY BORING.

one more data point on the dawn of widespread electric use - the infrastructure to support the average family with electric cars is not nearly up to the task. right now, you might be able to support a handful of cars per street, but the idea that most people have 2 electric cars charging every night is simply not feasible right now. i'm old school for sure, even have a '67 GTO, and i do think the lack of interest from the current/next generation is going to kill cars eventually, but it's not going to happen for maybe a couple of decades. it will be interesting to see what happens to the millions and millions of collector cars around the world that will not [necessarily] have a buyer. there are of course 'new' gearheads, but, in general, young kids don't really care for cars and their needs. i have millennials working for me and they drive utility boxes.
