The Rematch: Alex's 996TT vs. Darius' TT Viper (previously owned by Gary Javo)
100mph roll is rediculous on public street.
60-160mph no letting off is a fair game.

it will be very hard to decide a winner... and I think alex will be at a disadvantage at 100+ roll.

I have been in Mammth skiing for the past three days and my Treo based internet access is VERY limited. Thus, I have not seen the video posted/released by Darius and I have no comment about its contents.
I am informed that Alex and Darius filmed several races, including some where the Porsche pulled the Viper, then entered into a gentlemen's agreement not to post any of the videos (because of the undesirable conditions) until they raced again. If this is accurate, it was pretty weak of Darius to breach that agreement and post the video depicting the favorable outcome for his car (and conveniently fail to mention the other races where the Porsche pulled him).
As to the debate regarding rolling starts, both sides make valid points. Races from a dead stop are often more a test of launching ability than the speed of the cars, whereas rolling starts remove the launch variable and are, therefore, much more a function of raw power/speed. On the other hand, if one car has the advantage at lower speeds, while the other car has the advantage at higher speeds, racing only from high speed starts is plainly not equitable. Rather. the starting speeds should be varied between the sweet spots of both cars, or a happy median should be agreed upon.
Finally, it is a sincere shame that this friendly race between two car enthusists, both of whom own extrardinary autos, has evolved into a bitter and acrimonious battle between two internet forums/camps, with each side posting disparaging comments about the other which serve no purpose but the create disharmony. I have said it before and I will say it again - we all share a common passion for cars and, regardless of what particular model/brand we individually elect to drive, we should respect other car enthusists and foster a sense of community that transcends brand preference.

Ps. Please excuse the disjointed nature of this post, as I am typing it on a 1.5 inch Treo screen using pin head keys. I am back to the slopes tomorrow and probably will not be able to check in again until Tuesay evening

Thanks again for everyone's support and opinions! This is a great forum..
CJV- ""Fairly and equally" in a street race. I've heard it all now.
"As you know, you have to play their game and beat them at it,
that way there are no excuses!! Thanks again...

On the lighter note, if your car makes about 942hp at 1.5 bar, does that mean that when u race the turbo viper u will have aprox over 1000hp? If so that is just NUTS!

With a little dryness I was trying to say that this owners excuse of DR's really says "I'm not a really fast street car but rather a very slow race (drag) car.
Years ago I ran a car down in San Fernando Valley. When we lined up on the freeway the other driver checked his oil by slanting the whole body upward.
Yes, it was a funny car. Useless for the street. Alex has a car that has all the comforts, drives well on the street, will handle, etc. What is the point of having to go to race car extreme's for the street when there are a thousand other drag car's that will hand your head to you on a platter at the strip. Heck, my old 30+ year old Pro Stock Nova could give this guy a hugh handycap in the quarter. Again, what's the point.

Since it seems that no one believes in 'run what you brung' anymore (ugggghh), go best of 3.
100mph roll (advantage Viper)
30mph roll (advantage Porsche)
from a dig (advantage ?).
This would've been over back in the Fountain Ave/Conduit days in NYC. Bring your 11" slick-equipped car on a trailer and run. Once the starter drops his hands, it's a race. Miss a gear, lose the race (cash or keys).
