Key problem

2001TT... my main key was in a bag that got stolen. So I take out my second key (never used it before) and the remote doesn't work. I change the remote's battery, still doesn't work. SO I manually get in the car using the key (not remote) and try to start it. No go. Electric goes On, but the starter does tic-tic. And the car battery is fine (showing 14 on the dial).

Since the remote doesn't work, is it also necessary for the car to start? Some sort of ignition kill? Is there no way to start it with just the key?

The other problem is that, if nothing works, and I need to get it to dealer for reprogramming keys, the car is in a tight garage at a 45 angle to the door with no space to turn, so a very complicated hazardous tow job to get it out.

help.

Are you sure the battery is ok? Is the battery in the car the original one?

battery SHOULD be fine, it's a 6 month-old interstate, I leave it on a trickler, and the gauge tells me it's full.

I suspect the remote, and am curious to know if the remote's chip communicates with ignition in any way.

Does your LED flash when the buttons are pressed? If so, try a resynchronization of your key. Open the car manually with the door lock, place the key in the ignition and turn it on. Then turn off the ignition and remove the key. Now press the alarm button within 6 seconds. I finished doing it myself this weekend and it worked perfectly.

996Carrera - yes my LED flashes, tried the resync, did not work. Ignition on, then off, then pressed alarm button... I suppose by alarm button you mean the 'key' unlock button on the remote. Didn't work.

Man, she looked so pathetic sitting there, gorgeous, yet unstartable...

Did you have the doors closed when you pressed the key? I did everything while I was inside the car. If this still doesn't work, try to PM Loren, over at Renntech.org. I'm sure he will have a solution for you.

Sometimes the processor in the key will stop when the battery is changed. There's a TSB about it on Renntech. To reset the key's processor you remove the battery and insert it upside down for 3 seconds, then reinstall it correctly.

thank you

Thank you all for responding.

It was all in vain, a lost cause. The second key in question had the wrong codes to disable the immobilizer; the proper key codes were not in the ECU. Bloody previous owner. I never used this second key, so I didn't know until I needed it.

Picking up the car is at the dealer tomorrow, and the Moton suspension installation begins thursday.

cheers.

worth contacting the previous owner as he may have the wrong spare key sitting around for another car.
