Fitting 997 Turbo Y pipe to 996 Turbo

Why hasn't anyone tried fitting one of these when mated up with custom intercoolers and filters on turbo/ fender intakes?

They look very similar .

Any one know if it has been done ?

It's been done, but at that point why not just buy an aftermarket y-pipe designed for our car. That's what most do and probably why you don't see more 997.
