So my car is still having a cutting out problem. I’ve replaced the Plugs, Coils (updated 997 ones), Bosch MAF, intercoolers, intercoolers hoses, the crankshaft positioning sensor, air filter, fuel filter, oil change w/filter and a new battery.
So none of that is causing this problem, been chasing it for weeks and still can't seem
to figure it out.
The symptoms are it will some times do it and sometimes won’t. Hot or cold doesn’t effect that. If it does do it, it will start and idle high (1000rpm). Then once you give it gas, it will cut out and shake pretty bad once you’re at 4000rpms. Then if you do get unlucky on start up and it does do it, it will randomly cut out for a second and fall in its face when your at highway speeds and kick cruise control off.
Assuming the code is not stale but current that of course points to the crankshaft position sensor. I note you installed a new one. While I have no direct experience I hope an OE sensor and not an OEM sensor...
Did you check the wiring harness connector for any bent/damaged pins (or sockets)? Any signs of corrosion? Any chance mice have visited the car? Run the wiring harness as best you can checking for gnaw damage.
IIRC there is a call out for the gap between the sensor and the teeth on the ring that is bolted to the flywheel. Added: Just looked this up. It is 1.0mm +/- 0.2mm.
What did the old sensor look like? Did it show signs of having been in contact with the teeth of the ring? This can damage the teeth which can cause a perfectly good sensor to generate a bad signal.
Maybe you will find the following of some value.
Rather than type all this in let me attach a PDF that covers the P0336 error this from the Porsche 996TT OBD2 reference:
