Torque with K24/18G
I used a Sachs 487 pressure plate with a 997GT3 4.0 disc and a 996Cup LWFW for about 100hrs of hard track use. This is the same set up that comes from the factory on the 997GT3 4.0/ 997GT2 with the exception of the beefed up Motorsport 487PP in lieu of the stock PP. Zero slippage with a 3.8L and 720wtq at 4200 rpm. When I removed it, it showed zero measurable wear.
On my 4.0L, I run the same set up but swapped the 4.0 disc to a Cup disc.

Sounds like a good way to go. Is that direct bolt on for the 996? Curious, what is approximate cost for everything? What is the weight of the flywheel?

The 996Cup flywheel is 8.9 lbs. Porsche also used it in the 7GT3RS 4.0 and the 7GT2RS. It's the lightest flywheel used by Porsche, about 2 lbs lighter than the 964RS LFWF. The 487 pressure plate is the high clamp version of the 4.0 pressure plate. This set up is as good as it gets for a street / track use car and drives like a stock GT3RS, easily daily drivable. I ran it initially on my 4.0L and that dynoed at 740whp and 700wtq. No problems but I imagine I had to be getting close to the torque capacity of that set up. Never slipped though even when running on slicks.
Cost wise the 487PP is about $800. The Cup LWFW is about $800. The 4.0 clutch disc is $600. Ballpark #s...
I haven't heard of many guys using the Protomotive dual disc but I bet it will hold north of 900-1000 ft.lbs. I would imagine this would be great for dragstrip guys for sure as it will allow a lot of clutch slip and abuse during launch. For road course the high MOI of the dual disc would be problematic but for high Hp street I bet it's great.

Thanks for the info - sounds like a really nice set-up.
Yea, I think the Protomotive twin disc clutch is probably quite capable, as Todd uses it on his 1200HP builds. It feels really solid when it clamps. Even though it has the LWF, it does not rev like a LWF, feels only slightly lighter than the DMF. But the engagement at take off is just like a LWF. It seems to have it's own unique blend of characteristics. It's a good driving clutch, very normal, just feels extremely strong when it locks in/engages.
