Alternator rebuild diy

I took my alternator apart because the rear bearing wore out. It looks like it was rebuilt at some point. Takes a little force to pull it apart. Large 3 arm puller to separate it. I took a few pictures if anyone needs to see how it comes apart.
I replaced the Phillips head screws with some Torx. Also, the plastic cover for the bearing cracked. The cover needs to be aligned in the alternator housing so the voltage regulator fits. Test fit it before assembling eveything.

Timken 6003-2RSC3 6003-2RS Deep Groove Ball Bearing 17x35x10 amazon $9
CTA Tools 8088 Bosch Alternator Wrench - Compatible with VW/Audi amazon $15
Bearing Tolerance Ring 35mm ID, 38mm OD, 50.2mm 92202019 came from manicelectricmotors $7

impact screwdriver to remove stuck phillips head bolts and pulley removal socket tool are needed for this job. As well as a 8mm socket for the long bolts

the black impact screwdriver is needed to remove these

front bearing was fine. I pulled the seal and put some lucas white lithium grease in

Front bearing and washer are really light as the shaft is tapered

Nice job. Do the magnetos ever go bad? I think the electrical box in the back can go bad.

I'm sure they can. I downloaded a catalog from hc-cargo.com that has a lot of alternator parts

Very useful, thanks! So far I only had to replace the voltage regulator part# vrb254 or #F-00M-145-341 Bosch part for about $54.00!
