My 996 TT EVO Finally Arrived, Thanks Joe
Posting this ? again ... what do you guy think of vertically hinged doors on a 911? Tacky or cool? I can't decide. I love them on other cars but can't figure out if they ruin what a true Turbo is. Here's some pics:

Thoughts / opinions are appreciated. I may start a new thread on this subject later so it's singled out.

pretty cool, but I would think it would KILL your resale.........
Regarding your clutch....keep you fingers crossed because that's NOT how porsche clutch's go out........they go out like a normal clutch.....they start slipping in the higher gears and get worse and worse....they don't (that I've ever heard off) leave you sitting on the side of the road cause they went out so quickly.......
Good luck
Chris

Craig,
Marksi and VR-Alex have a Killer clutch (and they have 500 more
horsepower than you), but their clutch is total overkill.
Look into the Sachs clutch I mentioned. Talk to ViperBob,
Kevin @ UltimateMotorwerks, or Stephen, or Sharkey. They all
can help you out!!

WOODSTER, thanks for the recc man. My car is gutted at this point and I'm looking into getting this Sachs clutch installed in the next few days. I'm already having withdrawal symptoms not being able to step out and look at the car in the garage, muchless not being to able to drive it right now!! hahaha Hopefully she'll be back by the end of next week.
Thanks again, Craig
Thanks again, Craig
VRA, the clutch plate(s) were basically destroyed. They said it was a major failure that likely came from past abuse, but triggered when I "got on it" getting on the highway last Saturday night, even though I was far from maxing it out. He told me that if I "slipped" even slightly on the clutch coming out of 2nd or going into 3rd, it could have been enough friction / pressure (based on the extra horsepower in this car) to cause a major failure without any warning.
So they're putting in the Sachs clutch for me tomorrow and I'll get the car back on Friday afternoon ... quicker than I expected.
But I have a question for you guys that my mechanic brought up with me. He said that the Sachs clutch / flywheel is about 12 pounds lighter than standard, and when driving the car under "normal stop and go (city) conditions" (as opposed to aggressive track or road / highway driving), there's less momentum in the flywheel and a greater likelihood of stalling out once in a while when maneuvering in 1st gear. Nascar driver Kurt Busch lives here and has the identical (modified) turbo I have, and he has the Sachs clutch in his. But he's used to driving race cars for a living so it wasn't an issue to have it in his 911 for slower / city driving. Do any of you guys who have the Sachs have any issues of this nature when at slow speeds such as traffic lights / parking lots, etc? Just curious.
I appreciate your feedback and opinions.
P.S. I 86'd the thought of vert. doors ... figured it would look tacky. Thanks for your opinions on this also.
