if u take it to a porsche shop.. u will pay way more them ur range... no u can but its difficult to install an aftermarket system without removing the bumber... ist abit more then that.. u have u take out the inetrcoolers with the crazy brackets... some work... actually for someone that never did it... lot of work... then u bend up the heat shield and u get to the turbos and cats...
once there... often the mechanic strips the 2 sided threaded stud and ur stuck... u have to then try to take it out... go to a P car dealer and buy a new one...come back and try again...
problme with those studs is that the heat generated by the turbos casues them to be finicky.. sometimes the whole stud comes out form the turbo... because the nut doesnt want to unscrew...
its doable... i did it a few times... just take it to someone that knows whats up...

I've done this 3 times now and I have never had to take the rear bumper off. It might be slightly (and only slightly) easier if you take it off, but it isn't a necessity.
It's actually fairly easy to do if you have the correct hardware. The hardest part is getting the top two nuts on each turbo flange screwed down tightly. The intercoolers stay on as well.
Below are two good tips for taking the stock exhaust off:

Good luck!

I bought an inexpensive 13mm box/open end wrench. Cut it in half and ground down the box end so it would fit between the nut and the cat.
Did the same to the open end part as well. Seemed to work well. Half a wrench gave a lot more clearance. Nothing has loosened up in three years.

ruiner helped me do the install of my new cargraphic exhaust. i think i could've done it alone but it would've taken mucho longo. if you don't have someone to help you that's done it before, i'd just fork over the few hundred bucks and relax
BTW, i was not able to tighten down the top two bolts that everybody is talking about because i didn't have a short enough wrench. ruiner actually suggested doing something like NC Bob did but i do not have access to an acetyline torch. so i tightened the lower two bolts on each side as tight as i could get and it has held so far...

DIY exhuast 996TT:
13 mm wrenches (open and closed), as well as a 1/4 drive swivel
wrachet, with swivel and a couple different lenght extensions. By the
time I was done I was laying on a "sea of tools". overall not difficult,
but it will take 3-4 hours if you are laying on your back (as opposed
to having a hoist). I have done it 3 times also--final result:
PSI Quiet == Perfect !!
