996 Turbo Steering Rack
996 Turbo Steering Rack
Just been thinking about the steering rack and the leaks it can have upfront....
For some reason my car had a dodgy fix done on the pipe that goes into the rack and now its failing. Replacing the line is fine but its a bit of a pain with the fittings, (had the painful fittings when doing the clutch)
Has any one just replaced the lines from the rack to the pump with PTFE hose and AN fittings? As you can get the AN fittings conversion onto the rack and then its just the AN6 lines front to rear....

Yeah, those factory hard lines and fittings can be a real pain, especially if someone’s been in there before and “repaired” it the wrong way. I’ve seen a few people go the PTFE hose/AN fitting route, and it actually works really well as long as you use quality hose rated for power steering pressures and temps. The key is making sure the fittings seal properly at the rack if you go with the AN conversion adapters, take your time seating them and use proper thread sealant where needed (not Teflon tape). Once that’s done, running AN6 lines front to rear makes future service a lot easier and cleaner.
