Should I do Upsolute?

Should I do Upsolute?
Toying with the idea of getting my 03 chipped. I have several questions
Is any soldering required?
How long does the process take from start to finish?
Can the dealer detect the reflashed chip?
Does the computer have to relearn?
What happens if I take it to the dealer and they get a software update and download it to my computer and do I have to pay again to get it rechipped?
Has anybody had it done in NJ by the Belmar distributor?
Was the power increase especially the torque noticeable?
Thanks in advance
Arnie

Arnie...Do a search in Upsolute...I had it on my 03 X50 but then switched to GIAC.
Answers to your questions above:
- YES, soldering is required and if you do a search with the terms "msind upsolute PorschePhD" one of the threads will come up that shows the **** poor job Upsolute did on my ECU...They even used an Audi EPROM instead of a Porsche one!!
- The process should take hem a few hours and the time to ship to your local installer and back
- Yes the dealer can! Not only can they detect but they can overwrite. WIth GIAC they can not overwrite thanx to an encrypter. Also, there is an option with GIAC to get the "IBE Chipswitch" which allows you to have 3 programs on one ECU. I have this on my car and one of the programs is stock. When I go to my dealer and switch to stock via the keyfob the dealer can not tell that I have a chip as the original EPROM is untouched and instead they add a new circuit board with the encrypters and new program(s). Check www.giacusa.com for more info on this...It is pretty cool![Wink](https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
- As in above, your dealer can wipe out your program and whether you pay or not I guess depends on Upsolute. They never honored my money back guarantee request so to me their after sales service is not that great.
- BSC 996TT (not sure whoch part of the US) has it on his car and has dynoed it with good results (check his signature or do a search with his name and upsolute)
I believe end of the day you get what you pay for...If you want a GIAC, call Stephen at Imagine Auto (board sponsor - see banner on right) and tell him I sent you so you get a good deal...trust me

Also, Tony NJ who is in New Jersey also did the Upsolute on his TT but then switched to GIAC. I never heard of anyone doing GIAC then going to Upsolute although the price factor may account for some of that.

Upsolute
Now I remeber the thread. I am not thrilled with soldering a chip on the board. Too many bad things can happen. I got to think twice about this. I heard that somebody has the software for the X-50 upgrade and that can just be downloaded without a chop being soldered on the board. Does anybody know how the X-50 program would work on a regular turbo?

I say just go for the Stage 4. Trust me once you do a little something to the car for performance in terms of speed, it's all over..Say hello the little devil on your shoulder telling you to drop more $$$
