Stunned at Dealer

There I was looking at an 04' TT cab in Polar Silver. Granted, I have purchased 2 new Porsches from the same guy in 5 years. So I asked sales guy Dave... what will you give me in trade for my AS 2001 TT:

9K Miles
Full Supple leather all aroud
DSP Sound
Heated seats
Full allum package
Stage 2 with Europipe stage 2 Loud
PSS9 coilovers
Allum. gaug rings
center console to match paint

His car was pretty basic not too many add-ons. Alum gauges and SS, heated seats and $2750 for the polar silver Metallic paint. MSRP of ~$136K

Now mind you I am a repeat customer twice... He offered me $78K for my car. He said you get no book value for any mods. Let me tell you guys the TT market has tanked. Even though they are not making any 2004 coupe TTs for awhile this year they are really dropping all previous year 996TTs values. He claims $78K is what they are getting at car auctions.

Needless to say I am still the proud owner of my 2001 TT stage 2 with PSS9s that just literally sticks your butt through every curve. I don't even like Cabs. I like them less today.

Happy Holidays. It has been a great year chating and meeting some of you guys throughout 2003. I have learned a lot from all you and my car is better for it.

Stage 4GT EVO spring of 04'. Get ready Todd.

RS

Yea, that's what has been said for a long time now. The market is shot, and mods rarely add to the value of a car.

What the dealer offers is almost ALWAYS under what the market will support. Try to sell it outright to a private party and see what you get if you really want to sell it.

From what i understand speaking to a few friends who in car sales (retail and wholesale), almost any mod to a car detracts from the value. It doesnt matter much what the mod is even. Most perspective buyers (who are not "mod" savy) will look at the car as being "raced" or "abused".

I would think Ebay would be the best option for a mod'd car, and give a better evaulation of the current marketplace.

just my $.02

RS, since the dealer will not give you any extra for mods, would you be interested to sell me your Europipe exhaust and maybe the AS painted console? E-mail me if you're interested. I live in the Bay Area so a swap would be easy to arrange.

Love the one you're with...

With the 997 Turbo rumored to be getting a bump to ~480 HP, your car is probably going to be faster than that car too.

TT Value

....if I look at the TT vs. my 2001 stock portfolio - it's been a great investment.

As a general rule, the dealer will always give you less than the blue book or market value for your car. EBay or autotrader is probably your best bet if you really want to sell it.
