best wheel & tire size combo?

I have a stock X50 and I will be getting new wheels and tires. I do want to stay with 18" wheels. Do I stick with 8.5 in front and 11 in rear? Also, do I stay with stock tire size which is 295/30/18 in front and 225/40/18 in rear or go with something else more preferred?

Thanks!

What is your purpose? If for handling and performance, you want to stay
with the lighter 18" wheels. With the correct offset you can run 9" and 12"
widths. Whatever you want for tires, make sure the tire diameters are
as close to the same as possible, and *not* by calculating from the
generic 225/40/18 stuff, but by looking up the individual tire specs.

Mostly for regular driving and a couple track days a year.

i personally prefer 18 x 8.5 with 235/40-18 & 18 x 11 with 295/30-18 for best street use. good tire selection as well.

Keep your stock wheels for track use and if needed put a set of Cup tires on them for track days. So then you are set for the track. So now IMO if you are going to buy new wheels you are now looking for bling bling so go with the set of 19's that you like the most. 8.5 front and 11.5 rear with 235/315's.

I'd consider the 19" and running my 18" for track but where I live there is a lot of construction and some not so good roads. Will the 19" be too rough of a ride.

Guys seem to be quite much about bling. And I like beautiful wheels too. 19" look better as wheels because 996TT is no small car (...but then the tire sidewalls look a bit tiny.)

With these cars, people with knowledge say it's 19" for show and 18" for go...(even though Cargraphic had success in Tuner GP last year with 19" wheels...) The suspension with these cars is done with 18" wheels in mind...Besides better handling it translates to a better ride (but I haven't driven any 996's with 19" so I can't comment about that...perhaps I will be impressed?)

Anyway that's why I've got two 18" sets at the moment. One with PZero Corsas and one with Pilot Sport Cups...wait...oops...which one's the dedicated track (or street) setup

I've heard you're a professional but I assume the sizes you mentioned may have a bit too much difference for the AWD, PSM or ABS to work 100%? What do you think ? The rolling diameter is 0.4 inch bigger in front...
