Wiper delete DIY, lose 3.2 lbs in 20mins!
Finally ordered my rear wiper delete plug from bumperplugs, $15. I was really hating the look of the rear wiper. Seemed silly on a 996tt. I was a little nervous about removing the interior panel to get to the motor but it was no problem.
First step is to pull the plastic housing off the wiper arm base and remove the 13mm nut, this is on the exterior of the car. Next, get inside the car and pull straight out on the upper corner of the panel just in front of the wiper. It has 5 sturdy clips which hold it in place from the top. Once the plastic panel is removed, you will see some insulation which is easily removed. 2 10mm nuts and 1 10mm bolt hold the motor in place, remove these. Next pull the bottom of the motor towards you to allow the top threaded rod to come thru the body. You also need to unclip 1 wiring harness. To replace the interior panel you need to put the metal clips back on the body of the car. Mine were still on the plastic panel. Then just line it up and push it back on until all 5 clips snap into place. Last clean around the hole and put a very small amt of silicone on the plug. Push it in and spin it a little to distribute the caulk. A little excess silicone is bound to get on the body. A dry rag removed it easily. The removed pieces weighed 3.2lbs.
I am very pleased with the results!
