More Air to Air Filter/ Engine Bay
More Air to Air Filter/ Engine Bay
Hmmm, After some thought (probably incorrectly) as I have already cut back my air box 2 years ago, I thought it was time to let some more air into the the LHS of the engine bay, so popped in these 5 circular holes in the lid. No doubt cold air specialists will have a field day but my reference in the GT3 Cup car air filter and that mine always pulls 1.3 bar. Comments please (also posted on rennlist)
Hmm interesting. I highly doubt those circular hole will draw more air in and might disrupt the airflow inside the compartment no?I really cant explain what i mean so forgive me, its complicated! Also what did you do , you took half of the airbox off showing the filter inside?
Anyway that looks like the Fabspeed intake which everyone hated, i just put my evo v flow intake in and it felt good the first day, now my car feels sluggish and nnot reall responsive. i wonder if its my MAF sensor going or dirty, maybe its shot already. But anyway, i might put my stock airbox back in :/

yip! I have noticed something similar on one of the PSI race cars, but it wasn't fully open! mine is cut away 3/4 from the top all the way along, this way most of the heat will be removed through rear vent (Gemballa lid) It's difficult to judge where heat will travel, but i'm sure leaving it fully open will draw some hot air from below!

Would you lose torque or would it gain? AND any increase at top end? or is it a waste of time to try?
I have an extra stock box, I might cut it up and play with it to see if it makes any difference.

Isnt anyone concerned with the airfilter sucking in hot engine bay air? At speed it may work, but what about driving around town or in extremely hot temperatures where the engine bay is 200 degrees. The ECU will sense the hot air and retard timing, and therefore power. I went with a new twin snorkel design from kevin at Ultimate that seals the box from engine bay hot air but adds a second fresh air intake... Kevin

Kevin, that seems like the way to go with regards to airboxes. I also wonder how much it costs including I would assume a custom install vs the overall benefit in cars of lesser hp than yours?
