Lowering..Whats best?

Thumbs up Lowering..Whats best?

I dont track, but do drive fast. I just got a set of 19 IForged Essens with 9's in front and 12's in back. I want the car to come down a bit...should I spring for the PSS9 setup or just go with the springs. I'm not a cheapy but I just spent for a bunch of stuff for the car and was hoping to save a bit(at least for right now).
Any opinions???? I know the car wont drive as nice but will it ruin the ride I have now or make the car unsafe or so hard and bouncy I wont enjoy it as much???

Coilovers are the only way to go. Springs make the car highly un-enjoyable and just extremely sloppy feeling!

JB...don't skimp on the suspension. It is much more than the "lowered look" It is a much better ride with better suspension. That being said, since you don't track but like to drive fast, I think PSS9s are just right!

Have to admit to just lower the car the H+R springs will do a good job and you will not spend much. But wross and ill are correct about the suspension you dont want to skimp. That said best most reliable upgrade for the money would have to be the PSS9's

i'm concerned that all the PSS9 fans on this forum who seemingly slam their cars two one finger gap or less... are lowering it not knowing that they are hitting their bumpstops in turns... and lowering well beyond what bilstein recommends.

I think you guys are right. The PSS9 is the way to go. I'm sold...Damn this car is costing me alot of money...LOL

You will notice that the PSS9s offer a more comfortable ride over factory set up even though your car will be lower.

If you want to save a few bucks, buy a used coil over set-up. I believe a lot of guys have upgraded to motons. There should be a few JIC/Cross sets around. Just make sure the rear swaybar links have been upgraded - the old ones had a tendancy to crack. I had to replace mine and all has been fine.

I agree about not going too low. Hitting the bumpstops mid turn is NOT confidence inspiring. Trust me you can get it pretty low with scraping over dimes in the road. My ride height is 128mm front and 138mm rear. THis may seem high to some but I can go over speed bumps and still ride flat with no school bus look.

it is never a concern if u have someone install it right. we simply don't slam the car even when customers ask for it.

cool cool... but not everyone gets it installed at your shop who has safety, integrity, and ultimate handling in mind.

for every 10 911s i see on this forum that's lowered on pss9s, 9 of them are slammed way beyond what a proper lowering looks like (i.e. lowered excessively).

but then it looks cool and given what they're interested in, i'd bet they drive their cars very gingerly, garage queen style.

I just went from Techart lowering springs to PSS9's yesterday. I had them installed to the same height that the car was with the springs. 30mm lower than stock all around. It gives the car a nice lowered look, but there is still plenty of room for everything to function properly.

The difference in the ride is amazing. The lowering springs made the car feel very unstable. It wanted to jump around when you hit bumps, especially in turns. It made the car extremely stiff. The PSS9's handle even better, and it sucks up the bumps in the city suprisingly well.

Plus, the adjustability of the PSS9's is a huge bonus. You can make the car as stiff or as soft as you like.

This is why I modified the bump stops a bit My car is pretty much as "slammed" as it gets, and I don't ride the stops... You know my suspension is installed right when you know who installed it... Two words... Orbit Racing . I agree though, many are riding the bumpstops and the car is really handling worse that stock...

AMG, your car looks great!

But... simply modifying the bump stops for a little extra wiggle room is merely a band aid solution... Bilstein designed it in a way where the travel needs to be at a certain height... the bumpstops are there for a reason... because Bilstein didn't design for the shocks/springs to compress beyond the "stop" point...

i recommend that you guys take a good hard look at coilover setups with a more aggressive lowering range than the PSS9s for that slammed look.

believe you me, i LOVE that slammed looked (AMG's car above), but will not do it if the suspension isn't designed to help facilitate.
