Entering the GT2 in a Drift Competition this weekend (6/24/06)
So call me a DUMBASS! I used to have the best time hanging the *** end out in my several Turbo Datsun 240Z's, so why not try it in the Porch. I've taken the car to several road courses and a couple of drag strips so this seems like the next logical venue.
I need all the advice I can get, but here is what I am thinking for suspension set up: Make her as loose as a goose...Motons full stiff in rear / full soft in front, sway bar full stiff in rear / soft in front, use the sticky Nittos in front and mount my Michelin Pilot Sports (non R-compound) on the rear and inflate to about 50PSI.
My biggest challenge and concern is getting too much of a drift angle and not being able to recover...I need to find a parking lot and practice this craziness.
Anyone got any advice on drifting a GT2 besides GFL (Good F'n Luck)?

Dude, you are f'n nuts..........................!!!
Although, it can be done... I've seen some cool drifts done with that car, especially power-induced ones.
However, I hope you only do this once... it's such an abuse of a wonderful car.

Cleve,
Sounds like fun! I don't think you need to go to the extreme set up to get her to drift like you want. I think they make special drift tires and I would suggest you consider a set. But given its your first time out (and you may not want to spend the dough) I would go with PS2's front and rear, a little extra pressure in the rear is a good idea. Full stiff on rear bar, one off full soft on front bar. Shock could be stiffer in rear on compression and rebound, but you want don't want to go too extreme. It is all about throttle steer once you get the @$$ out, so you need to keep a good balance in overall handling as well. I am not a drifter so I my ideas may have no merit at all. However I did sleep at a Holiday Inn last night!
My GT2 is set up right now as follows: Motons on 3/3 (rebound/compression) front and rear. Bars 1 off full stiff, front and rear. MPSC's (at about 3/32nds tread in the rear, 2 track days + 150 miles of street driving) at 30 lbs front and 32 lbs rear (cold). I have the stock progressive springs in there right now. My alignment is -3D front and rear with 40' of toe rear and 0' in the front.
Last weekend I went to a big deserted, nicely paved parking lot and began the process of trying to get a clean drift in 2nd and 3rd gear (one or the other, not shifting while drifting). It was real easy to over cook it in 2nd getting the tail out and I had a number of tank slappers. But if I kicked it out with throttle lift just right and picked up the throttle smoothly, I could hold it at a nice angle until I straightened her out with opposit lock and throttle input. However the angle was not near as extreme as the drifters, I have seen. In third gear I found it easier to hold the car in a slide as the throttle response is less abrupt, so it was easiear to be smooth! As always being smooth will be the key to no violent rebuttals from the car, and it can hand you some!
Good luck and let us know how you do!

AHha you definitely are nuts, but hey, its cool to see someone who is willing to try new things safely with their high performance cars. Yes GT2 is pretty, but also pretty when being put to use! Go out there and drift, we need videos too
Goodluck!
Goodluck!
