Engine failure

Hey guys...Hope you all had a good fourth.. heres my deal.. I have the following mods, forge diverter valves, V-intake, Remus Exhaust and a Sachs Stage 2 with flywheel..Nothing crazy yet... But it seems this car just wont run right... Monday the car started to sputter a little under heavy throttle. Then I parked the car outside my friends house.. Got in the car and made a u-turn where the car then decided to die out on me... This is the second time this has happened...The first time it happened i got the car serviced and the car had fuel pump failure less then 20 miles from the dealer... Do any of you guys continue to have fuel issues... Is it because the intake system is making the car run lean, as the tail pipes are white not black...

THANKS

It's certainly not an engine failuer so you can sleep easy.. It's likely a vacuum leak/intake leak of some kind and/or a combo of your MAF. Check all your boost hoses, dv hoses etc...

there are about 18k on the car ... the plugs go that fast on these things...? I was thinking MAF as well...but it just doesnt seem to be that as porche all ready ruled that out.

On any modded car you can expect to change plugs every 15-20k at the very least. These are high-powered Turbo cars and not NA-Camry's with plugs that last 80K Not sure why Porsche only changes them every 60K... maybe because it's a bit of a hassle.

well i know its not my old 99 camry with a 5sfe motor under the hood...but my skyline which runs a much more high powered turbo setup doesnt need them changed every 15 to 20 but more like 40 to 50...but then again i havent really put 40 to 50 on it but its over the 15 marker and they seem to be just fine... Secondly i think your right the porsche has them changed at the 60 cause doesnt the exhaust manifold have to come off to get to it... and it thats the case that is a hassle of some sort. But still even if it was A spark plug i would be miss firing and so fourth first... i am hard headed to believe there is another fuel issue and i was woundering if any of you guys seem to have been having or had fuel issues with your porsche as this would be the third issue with mine.

True but I'm sure on your Skyline you're not running "stock/OEM" plugs either? Likely some kind of double platinum/iridium thing? But if your car is "dying" on you I'd still check for air leaks etc.... I didn't read that you were misfiring or anything hence I think it's an intake/vacuum leak.

i was thinking vacuum leak as well as i have always had bad luck with intake components on all my cars even the darn skyline boost leaks at least once every 3-5k...but usually with a boost leak of some sort if i turn the car on with my foot on the throttle it at least breaks over 2500 rpms...maybe its cause the skyline doesnt divert the air back in and has a much different plumping system...but i would figure the same with the turbo ..

Also yeah your right not stock plugs...but the skyline didnt cost 160k... it cost more like 100 when it came out and it still came with denso iridium as i believe thats the only plug recommend by nissan in japan to put in the car.

I wouldn't put any faith in the dealer. Most are idiots. There are only a handful worth a snot.

Change the plugs, they are flaming out. The problem will go away after that.

Mike Schatz is the head Porsche tech at Rusnak in Westlake . . . he knows his stuff, including modified 996TTs, as he operates an after-market Porsche tuning business in addition to his 9-5 Porsche tech duties: http://www.schatzmotorsport.com/ .

As people mentiones, could be plugs and maf sensor or one of them, i would be if sputtering at startup maf sensor! I noticed my plugs were shot when under full throttle it would sputter and hesitate.

Sucks man, GL! Also dont know whats up with your exhaust tips being white?!
