Ok. I almost took the plunge with the Cups. But, caught the comments re diminished ride quality and decided to go with Chris Y's feedback re the Bridgestones. So far, I'm glad I did. Just got them on this morning.

Granted this is comparing to Pirellis that had 4900 miles on them when I bought the car, and now have 7500 miles on them. But, the Bridgestones eliminated the front end vibration (which balancing couldn't seem to cure with the Pirellis), eliminated the big rig tire sound from the rear end (also caused by the Pirellis), improved ride quality significantly, and grip appears to be slightly better (could just be because they are newer though). So, in the context of what Chris said, I think Porsche must really have done their homework in co-development of the Bridgestone. A very nice tire... now we just have to see how well it holds up. In this regard, honestly, as long as they perform this well for a year, I'll be happy. Heck, on the race car I replace tires every few weekends. So, a year is like a lifetime to me.

I had the first set in the Bay Area of the 195/50-15 A008s avail for VW Sciroccos back around 1981 . Remember all the Pirelli P7* vs A008 comparos back then when the Yokos blew them away? The tires with the dimples became THE aftermarket street tire to have through the 80s esp for the autocross back then. Yoko seems to have lost their marketing mojo the past decade and brands like Kumho/Toyo seem to have replaced them with today's younger modders.

* ( Might be hard for our younger board members to believe that the P7 was the ONLY low profile " performance" tire in the whole world from the late 70s to the mid 80s and that Michellins first attempt, the metric diameter TRX introduced on the '84/85 Testarossa was a huge failure )

Yeah, I remember the days when we yoosta nail on ar own tars - yup. Dem tars was nothin' but iron sheets on wood wheels. Yup. Back in them days, there weren't no high-falootin' 'Techart' ner 'EVO'. We had wood spoked wheels and iron tars and we made due!

Tarnation!

Youre kidding no OEM replacements for 6 months. Did they say why? What is the difference in the pilot sports and the ps2s?

That was the story on the Michelin PS2s and the Contis. But Pirellis and Bridgestones, also OEM, are available... Discount Tire and Tire Rack both tell the same story and each claims to have verified with Michelin and Conti. So I went with the Bridgestones... which seem fine except for one problem.

Get this. I finally get my new rims (after being ripped off the first time I tried to buy them), finally find tires, and finally have them installed this morning. After the install is finished, I'm in a hurry and, although I take a minute to look at the wheels on the car at a glance, I have to haul *** to the office to get some work done. About 7 pm I leave the office and, taking the car cover off, I notice there's more of a gap between the fender and the tire. I then notice the rear rims stick out from the tire more than they should... Upon closer inspection, I find that the dumb****s have put 285s on the back instead of the 295s I ordered and paid for.

This is like one of those stupid movies where everything just keeps getting more and more F'ed up... I guess it's back to Discount Tire again tomorrow to converse with the apparently blind, ADHD, high school drop outs who run the local branch.

P.S. They also forget to give me the "extender" that allows you to fill the tires. Long story, HRE specific. And, they charged me for chrome valve stems, when the wheels come with HRE specific valve stems that are hidden from view by the mesh portion of the wheel. <rant off now>

Contis should have been included in the poll.

Hi Zippy,

The poll was really intended to be the following: "since we can't get Contis or Michelin PS2s right now, which tire should we get."
