Plastic Air Flow Regulator pre MAF

My TT was running like a DOG ever since I cut some more inserts in my lower deck lid to get more air into my cut back air box. I thought my MAF was shot (I cleaned it, no difference) or maybe the spark plugs, got 3 or 4 Cels which always came back after a week of reset, Porsche dealership told me these codes were due to 100 cel cets etc in my Techart exhaust etc (I've had this for a year)

Then I inadvertedly took out the plastic screen which regulates the air flow over the MAF "into squares" and hey presto the car goes suddenly like NEVER before, I even saw 1.4 BAR this am, so maybe I had too much air in the airbox and the plastic screen was screwing up the MAF reading. Whatever as long as you keep the metal gauze in to stop particles getting into the engine I would recommend you try taking the plastic screen out !!! 3 weeks and no cels (as yet) and boy am I HAPPY

Good news for you.

Unfortunately we have been hypothesising that maybe the lack of the stock screens is WHY we've been getting CELs....

Its really a little more then that... and unfortunately, it's a combination of both programming and the actual unit itself.
There is only so much you can do to cap the voltage... the other reason is that the stock MAf can only handle so much... here is a technical explanation from someone that actually tunes TTs....

"The stock MAF makes it's peak voltage at 1400 kgs/hr, or 51.33
lbs/min, and at 10hp/lb/min, that's 513hp max. But those engine's don't
make that efficiency, so maybe 490 or so hp, they're pegged.
Now, the input voltage is 12v, so the thing keeps making more output
voltage, but the ecu has a diode clamp on it to keep it from exceeding that
voltage, so the thing just keeps drawing more and more current till it pops."

that is the "planar" air screen. Used to homogenize the air flow, the "screen" is to eliminare debris.

it regulates the airflow but there is a second wire screen for debris, I mean boy does this make a difference with my set up, its amazing v. surprised nobody else has at least experimented with taking this out, however briefly

Open the air filter box, remove air filter, its behind there, maybe it make more diff. if you already have a non OEM air filter like my BMC/K&N etc

I had a look at that thing. It's interesting. The air is cut in squares and then must get kinda stirred up as it leaves the plastic air squarer as the plastic "guides" are not flat, but infact "<" shaped. The air enters on the pointy side. What would the purposes of this be???
