Strange wind noise "Whooshh" air escape
Hi Team,
I have a friend which have a 996TT that was already serviced for maintenance and even though is not having any bad engine hesitation or check engine light, it looks like when the car is '' under boost, from the passenger side you can hear a loud " Whooshhh" noise, like air geeting out in a fast pace.
Have any of you have this type of problem and/or noise in boost and from this side?
Francisco

Now, serious... its definately a boost leak and it sounds like a damaged boost hose or (as it happened to me after servicing) not correctly fastened, right before the Y pipe.
Where are you from Francisco? (I'm Francisco as well..)
i've noticed the same sound recently in my Turbo S (w/ less than 5000kms) but i haven't seen any performance loss, and i'm still spiking 0.1bar over factory boost. Usually 1.0 - 1.1 bar. Car is completely stock. Maybe I'll have them check it next time I'm in for service. Would it be wise to upgrade to aftermarket / better hoses?

If you really want to find out fast without guessing... do a pressure test.. you will be amazed what you find...
Its easy... just do not go to a Porsche shop because they will not know what to do and they will make a big event out of this...
Find a tuner that does Japanese cars like evos, supras, etc... they will know what to do.
You take off one hoes form the cold side of the turbo and pressurize the system to lets say 15 psi... then wait look and listen.... if the pressure drops u have a leak.
good luck,
markski

Not sure if I got the procedure right but you need to cover both hoses from the cold side but still there will certainly be one of the cilinders in valve overlap letting the pressure out through the exhaust valve...
