My TT is injured!!!
Chris -
1/ Thank God You're OK, and its just a car after all.
2/ My opinion is to sell the car "as is" as a fixer. Its amazing how many buyers there are for expensive fixer cars, and you will get more for the car + ins damage settlement together than you would ever get for a repaired car. Even cars with soft markets are hot items as "fixers" since so few come along (esp 996TT fixers) and there are many that will fix as a means to bridge the gap between their financial resources and dream car. Its a different breed of buyer but they are out there in droves. Once you repair and cover up the damage, then market reverts to typical retail buyer with little tolerance for damage.
The other advantage is that you can get the estimates, settle, then sell right away instead of it dragging on as you wait for various special order parts from Germany, and hassle with the autobody shop trying to match silver paint, ad nausum.....

chris, im glad that you are ok...
no broken bones or anything..
one thing you do need to show the insurance is teh receipts of your aftermarket parts.. too
inorder for them to replace them at what ever the cost of teh parts were to you..
and if you were injured in anyway, i would reccomend hiring an attorney to see if you can get compensation for your pain and suffering.. i know a lawyer in the los angeles area that handles accidents.. sometimes you feel pain days after your accident.
if your interested e-mail me at c2911fatboy@yahoo.com
but im glad you did not get any major injuries
p.s. try not to go to a reccomended body shop by the insurance they wil usually lowball you on the repairs, if u know a body shop have them do the insepction there bec. the body shop can show them parts that may have been broken under the bumpers etc.....

Chris, glad you are ok....
did the other party have insurance ? anyone at fault ?
As you know, it could have been worse for you and you escaped serious injury, thank God for that....
Best of luck and I hope you get the best settlement you can

Chris, sorry to hear about your accident. The most important thing is that you aren't injured. I'm assuming this happened in Hawaii, right?
Anyway, totalled, salvage, or what not, you should dump your car to a dealer as a trade in on your next Porsche. You will take a loss, but at least you won't have any liability concerns to worry about after the car is gone.
Call me if there is anything I can do to help.

Sorry for your loss but it does not look like a total or close to it from your pictures. In any case, depending on the relationship of the body shop and the adjuster, you probably are better off not totaling. My wife had an accident a while ago and the adjuster told the shop that if he totalled the car, that it would be reviewed by the home office and you might wind up with less than you expect.
Thanks for the kind words guys!!! I'm really heart broken after the accident...
The more opinions I get, the more it's looking like the car won't be total loss. I know if it's a loss...I won't get even close to the 85k that '01 TT's usually go for. I guess I'll find out how much it costs to fix and just get a new Porsche in the mean time.
One more thing I wanted to say...For anyone that doubted how strong this little car is...It's very strong. Although this is my first accident of any kind in my many years of driving, the car really felt rock solid on impact and the front end absorbed the damage well. I just want to thank the engineers at Porsche...A job well done!!! I won't hesitate to buy another one after this...

Yes...she was very shaken up, but otherwise came out without major injury. Just some minor cuts and bruses from fly glass and debris.

Glad you're OK - what about the person you hit? Was she alright??

Chris Y, glad you and the other party are OK, from the photos and skin deep damage I anticipate I feel that your car will be a total loss, perhaps something great will come out of your situation, like a new car! Good Luck.
Ray...
Yup...Just did a full detail on the car...Removed all the swirls and scratches from the dealer washes, 6 coats on Zaino sealant, and topped off with P21s wax. All ruined in a matter of seconds...
If anything...I'm going to get every penny out of these guys. Thanks for all the ideas...much of this is new to me being my first accident
Keep the ideas comming!

Wow, sorry to hear about this Chris. Looks like the car was clean too, bummer.
Doesn't look to me like the car is totaled. What you need to do is go after the other party's insurance company for DIMINISHED VALUE. Try to get some real transaction prices for untouched Turbos vs. previously damaged ones to argue your point. Also, an appraisal by a recognized company might be of value. Check out the following address or search for more like it for additional information: http://www.collisionclaims.com/diminishedvalue.html .

No problem...I've been asking myself the same questions. To the point, I think I have layoff a bit and go on vacation for a few day...But work still has to be done and I think working will keep me from thinking about it too much...
As far as locking it up? Yes, I felt the pulsation of the ABS activity, but the next thing I next was being locked up by the belts and my upper torso and neck being thrown into the airbag.
I'm going back to the scene today with an accident reconstrutionist (sp?) who will try to find out the distances and exactly where my first reaction took place , the car's mechanical reaction, and stopping distance. So far, everone talks about distances and say, oh if you were traveling 25, you should have been able to stop in 40 ft easily. In my eyes yesterday, after slamming the brakes, and a second later, I knew the car wasn't going to stop in time and just braced myself for impact keeping both hands on the wheel.
As far and going to the left or right...there was lots of traffic coming in the opposite direction, so that wasn't an option. On the my side were kids walking to school (even a kind 14 year old who first called 911)...In my opinion, there was no options...

Chris: Sorry man, glad you're OK. I feel similarly about my Lambo, when my spindle broke, I kind of lost faith in the car ... she let me down (even though I know **** happens, especially at the track).
I hope it's not too early to ask some questions. Did you have time to consider locking it up and hitting her sideways? Not sure this would have been better considering the airbag situation these days but I know how time slows down in situations like that and lots of things run through your head.
