hELp!!My Turbo is SMOKIN!!!!

Hey Guys I was wondering if any of you have had this problem with your TTs' in the past. Just last weekend after a spirited drive on some twisties a friend of mine noticed that my passenger side exhaust was giving off burnt oil smoke. Now I just drove it last night and my brother from behind noticed that it was giving off alot of smoke.

Can anyone tell me what this might be. I am hoping that this is an easy and quick fix that I could do myself rather taking it to the dealer and spending an arm and a leg to get this problem taken care off.

Sounds like the turbo is going. Pull the inlet boost and see if there is oil in there. If there is it is time for a rebuild.

You need to make sure you do not shut the car off when hot. It should idle for at least a minute.

Exactly, turbo smoking with a puff on startup is semi-normal, but while driving warmed up, sounds to me like your turbo is shot!

I know that the car gives off a little smoke on start up when the car is cold. The car should be smoking while the car is warmed up and while is moving with traffice. Plus I always cool the car down for atleast a minimum of a minute before I shut the car off so I know that I am good in that department.

I have the following performance upgrades on the car.
Evoms Miltek exhaust
Stage 4 turbo upgrade

The thing is guys I have had this kit less than a year. I had the turbos put on when the cars mileage read 28,000 odd miles and now the cars mileage is at 31,879 miles. So you can see my frustration. I can't possibly understand how the turbo can be shot already.

The typical reason is hot shut downs. If the turbo burns the shaft it doesn't matter if it is 2K miles old. In that same light if the install is not done right with the preoil and install then it will be damaged the first time it starts. After messing with turbo Porsches for 20 years you can imagine this is not the first time I have seen this.

time for an upgrade. If you have ever broken a turbo shaft, especially with the 930s, you'll kill a lot of mosquitos.

Stephen, are you talking about the hose that goes from the turbo to the intercooler?

Start up smoke is a recognized occurrence, but I've noticed sometimes after she was driven and parked for a while (1 hour) then restarted, she will blow out a puff of white smoke. Normal?

Would you also see something after the turbo as the compressed air goes to the intercooler?
