manual key not working?

i should've known - the car has not a problem for 2 weeks - a record...

i've been in chicago for 5 days and now the car won't unlock. i read the FOB turns itself off after 5 days but you should be able to unlock the door manually.

as luck would have it, this doesn't work. i turn the key in either direction and - nothing. (even if i had a dead battery (no reason though for that), the manual lock should work, right?)

any ideas?

I am happy to respond, however I don't know what to say...It should work mechanically...To reset the key FOB, you remove the battery, place it in backwards for 10 seconds and then re-install. If it needs re-programming you must see the dealer. So none of your keys work on eithet door?

Here is a link to some other ideas including fuse problems:

wross996tt - thanks for the link & info.

rwm514, i have tried a few times but i will try again.

basically, i am reduced to breaking the window. it's in a garage, parking brake, on; etc so no one wants to touch it for < $400. a lot less headache breaking the window (and believe me, i will take *a lot* of joy in that) and driving it to get fixed.

yes, it looks good, it's very fast, and i've got way too much money into it now; but i don't think there will be another porsche turbo in my future. the past 8 months experience have been beyond taxing...

James mentioned there's some stereo stuff going on in there (I don't believe it was factory installed) but there's got to be something drawing current and killing the battery. I know that even when the light is blinking (alarm) the battery can still be too weak to open the trunk but still. I take it the trunk button doesn't work either? But damn, never heard of it not unlocking??! Before doing anything drastic give Brian a call @ Carlsen and let's see if he's ever heard of this before...

yep, talked to him - he said they could fix it *if* i could get it down there. obviously, that's the trick since no tow truck company will touch it right now.

can't get into the car so don't know if it's a battery or anything. brian said the manual key should still work, even if the battery is dead. this makes logical sense but i guess i wouldn't put anything pass the designers of this car...

Gotya. I understand- the hand brake is on so they're obviously leary Getting to the starter motor is nigh on impossible too.. for using a +-ive connection. The hood doesn't open either obviously with the button on the key- even with a new battery, right?

Do porsche windows have frames? I had a locksmith break into my car (frameless windows) by inserting a balloon past the edge of the window and inflating it, then reaching in with a metal pole and triggering the door lock. Kind of disconcerting, really. It only took him like three minutes to get into my car.

gramicci101, thanks for the tip. armed w/ that little knowledge, i was able to find a locksmith who could open the door.

they used this tool

note: this won't work on 993tt's - there's one next to me in the garage and they have frames around the window.
