fabspeed whiney sound

Hello,

I have a Fabspeed loud exhaust installed on my TT. At start up it produces a high pitch noise from the left side. Once it warms up the sound goes away at idle but can still be heard when I rev it but not as bad. Can a cat go bad on these?

thanks

Have you leak tested your flange joints, gaskets, etc.?

A solution of soap and water for a bubble test is fast and cheap!!!

So a leak might make that noise? I will definitely try soap bubble test and will report back.

Maybe.

It sounds like when you cold start it leaks until heat expansion takes place.

I finally got around to doing the water/soap test. What I found is that the exhaust heats up to quick so the water sizzled and evaporated before I can tell. I went ahead and repositioned and tightened the flange between the cats and muffler. That helped quite a bit but I still hear the whiney noise. I'm guessing now it is the gaskets between the turbos and cats. I have the gaskets on order but could that be a problem? Are there any torque specs for the bolts that holds the cats to the turbos?

thanks

Be careful with reusing gaskets dude as they may be compression gaskets that are for single use only. My advice at this point is to pull the whole thing apart and start over with new gaskets. If and when you pull the exhaust off, maybe get it pressure tested or looked at by someone reputable or ya know what?... give it a shake. If your hear shrapnel inside, that's not a good thing.

On the bubble test thing, use a spray bottle and set it on "stream". Good luck.

dont reuse the gaskets... I had the same exhaust... the same sound came out of mine... u can tell also if u have a black layer of smoke around the cats and or the leaks...
