GIAC or Super Chip
GIAC or Super Chip
I have a 2004 Turbo 996 x50 and I am wondering if I should add a super chip for about $1k or the GIAC product for about three times the price. Each rep is pushing their's over the other. Bottom line, I'm looking for more horses. Thoughts?
I recommend going with the GIAC even if it is more expensive. GIAC is tried and tested. I went with the Upsolute chip first on my car and had ABS/CEL problems and evenetually switched over to the GIAC.
GIAC..... hands down

What always bothered me about Revotech is that their program for the X50 and GT2 do not make much more horespower than the standard 911TT.
This led me to believe that they don't have specific or optimized tuning for the X50/GT2 and they don't have a migration path for Stage 2, 3, or 4.

calcareer, I have REVO stage 2. car runs awesome and I am not sure where you got the info "do not make much more hp than a standard TT"?
For anyone considering REVO (and by the way what sold me) was the 5 hour FREE flash upgrade. pull in 10 minutes ECU flashed and go drive and see what you think! The 5 hour trial is only there stage one upgrade and even then A MASSIVE difference is appreciated!
price is between GIAC and Upsolute. I still do think however that the GIAC is "top of the line" if you need it. I wanted reliable hp and be done with it and I also thought price was steep, but as they say you get what you pay for!

Tom,
I am referring to what is published on their website. Their software for a base 911TT claims an horsepower output of 490 hp. Their X50 software claims a horsepower output of 500 hp. If they can only muster 10 hp more for the X50/GT2 engines that already have the k24 turbos and bigger intercoolers, then I believe that thay are not offering optimized tuning for the X50/GT2 engines.
They do not offer specific tuning for 100 cel cat exhausts, high flow intakes and other performance modifications.
I have repeatedly spoken to Mark Hergesheimer and the Revotechnick people (Revo has an office in Mark's shop in Mission Viejo) and they say the numbers are wrong and they will correct them. They have been challenged to post real numbers with dyno charts and they still have not done so, and this has been going on for almost two years.
Yes, when you first experience their software on the free trial, it does feel faster. That is only because you are only comparing it with the stock performance. If you were to compare back to back performance with a Stage II Giac package, you will realize that the Revo performance is not as great as it seemed initially.
With Giac, you have an extensive migration path, while you are pretty much stuck with the Revo.
Also, the price of the Revo software has recently been reduced to $2,249.00 and the Giac software isn't much more than that.
I am not flaming Revo, they do make good software. I am just frustrated with their lack of customer response to their promise of posting real dyno or performance numbers like the other tuners do.

I get it cal, and no offense meant. On their site under the stage 2 it does state that this is the level that takes into consideration the exhaust etc. Also this stage enabled me to run with no cats and straight pipes and no CEL's. I have to admit I was "shopping" for an ECU flash for quite some time and only last month went with REVO. I felt that it was better than the entry level stuff but not as good as GIAC, especially in the fine tuning and mod upgrade areas. but again on their site the stage 3 is for advanced turbos ect.
Finally, I have to admit what closed the deal for me was THERE ARE NO GIAC DEALERS in tampa bay! While my porsche dealer uses and supports the REVO software. So I didnt want the old hey something is wrong with my car and the dealer blaming everything on someone elses software, everytime something went wrong with the car!
But thanks for the clarification. I will let all know if any problems arise as I dont think many here have REVO.
