Audi RS6
Audi RS6
Ok...I just test drove the Audi RS6 yesterday and was definitely impressed with the power, handling and overall appearance, etc. of the car. It seems like a great car and would be perfect for my wife!
With a twin turbo powered 450HP quattro sedan, Im sure it would be a perfect compliment to the 996TT!
Does anyone on this board have an RS6? If so, can you comment on the car? Positives and Negatives aspects would be great.
I was quoted around 88K (MSRP and pretty well equipped) for the car with no discount. I was told that there are only 800 some cars allocated to the US market, thus no discount. Can anyone confirm?
Thanks!

Frankly I'd never go near a turbocharged Audi again in my life.

apparently folks are negotiating them down from MSRP - push hard.
the car has two fundamental problems:
(1) it's way too expensive.
(2) slushbox only.
they're not importing that many because they can't sell that many.
i'm an audi fan. currently use an A4 2.8 QMS for winter driving. i'm seriously considering upgrading that to a new A8 L once they get the bugs out.
but i'd buy an RS6 in half a heartbeat at MSRP if only the damn thing had a stick shift. it's just foolish that they're shipping cars like this with slushboxes. they think their market is E55 customers, but i think their market is M5 customers in snow country (eg: me!).
i know guys who've had turbocharged audis go hundreds of thousands of miles with zero problems. ymmv.
doody.

If you are not in a hurry, you may want to wait a bit and try the new M5 thats coming.
- Advantages comapared to the RS6 will be: lighter, much better handling - sportier chasis, 500-550HP expected, atmospheric BMW engine compared to Audi's Turbocharged engine, posibly the option of the sequential SMG-II instead of the poor hydrolic torque-converter automatics of the Audi's.
- Disadvantages of the M5: no AWD on M5, like the Audi's permanent Torsen AWD.
And the new 5-series doesn't look bad at all in person (in the pre-release pics I've seen it seemed ugly), it looks imposing in real life, can't imagine the M5 with the bigger wheels, exhaust tips, and sportier body kit.

Thanks for all the comments.
I'll have to see what the dealer has to offer before I make any decisions.
I love the thought of a twin turbo 450 HP sedan with AWD, but will it be too much for my wife? The 450HP I can justify for myself, but it will serve as the family car and wife's daily driver.
On a more practical note, the other vehicle that we're looking at is the Cayanne S. I know...much different from the RS6, but, seems to be a good solid performing SUV and more attractively priced.
I have yet to explore other audi options (A6, A8 or S8), but we've pretty much narrowed it down to audi and the cayanne.
According to my wife, all the other SUVs are either too small or just not appealing to her, so that rules out the X5, ML, FX45, MDX, etc.
Does anyone have the RS6? Also, can any Cayanne owners speak up?
Thanks again!

At $88k for the RS6, why not consider the Cayenne TT? It's an absolutely phenominal vehicle (car or truck). Plus, it also has 450 HP! Besides, your wife does need all the HP - for the times when you're driving her car!

Do yourself a favor and drive a Cayenne TT. I can't pry the thing away from the wife and she is a true hater of SUV's. Her year old S430 has sat untouched since I brought this home

While I totally understand your experience with Audi, and not just
the car itself, I think relating Audi's V6 to thier V8 wouldn't be a
fair assessment of the V8's reliability.
Actually, both engines have been very stout (with the exception
of the 2.8L) and in all fairness, I believe your issue was with the
KO3 turbos (and Audi themselves). The KO4 turbos used in the
RS6 appear to be much more reliable. That, paired with a V8 that
has a long history of reliability, should bode well for any long term
future owner.
I have 44,000 trouble free miles within a 2 year period on my
2001.5 (Mbox) S4 with original throttle body boot (God knows
why they used that crappy material - no rips though), original
Bosch 710n BPV's (still working - surprisingly), original tranny
(IMO there is nothing wrong with with the tranny, just a bunch
of non-driving kids out there), and original KO3 turbos (which I
know for fact will blow, someday, but work perfectly fine).
I've tracked my car 3 times (not much), but have taken it to the
1/4 track numerous times (with original clutch!).
I'm not bustin' your chops by any means NASA, just giving helpful
info to give BCS996TT a better feel for his decision =) And believe
me, I'm familiar with the Hell Audi put you through with your S4
(AudiWorld).
IMO, I think the RS6 is a good sports sedan. It's just a bit late in
attending the ball game. This car should have come out 2-3 years
ago. Also, the A6 chassis was never intended for this engine
configuration... but, Audi got it to work.
That said, I would test drive the RS6 on the same day you test
drive other cars/SUV's. Then, and only then, will you know what
it is you need.
By the way, I'm not an Audi nut. I'm a Audi/Bugatti/Lamborghini/
Porsche/Seat/VW nut!

I was at the Pcar dealership yesterday and only test drove the Cayenne S. I just might have to consider giving the turbo a quick spin!
What is the going rate for Cayenne Turbos these days? I would probably lease it through my business, but I would expect that leasing terms are somewhat favorable?
