Question Big cloud of smoke from my exhaust!?!

This evening after starting my 996tt to come home from work, I noticed a cloud of white smoke from the exhaust(s). It went away in a couple of seconds. Am I correct in thinking that this is smoke from oil? If so, then why?

My car has 5k miles, and I go through a quart of oil about every 800-900 miles. This is the first time I've noticed smoke from the exhaust(s), aside from water vapor in the cool morning. I'm due for an oil change this month, and want to know if anyone thinks it's worth the time and hassle to have the dealer look into this at the same time. I'll probably just ignore it if it doesn't happen again, but could it be an ominous sign of bad things to come?

I believe consensus say it's normal for our cars.

do a quick search on the topic. I think there should be about 10 threads in the last 3 months. Totally normal for the engine design. Keep track of your oil consumption and you should be fine. Good luck

Thanks for the replies. I did a search on the topic just prior to posting, but came up with "no matches" -- I think the search function was down. I'll keep an eye on it, and the oil consumption. Maybe I'll mention it in passing to the service advisor at the oil change ...

very normal.. could be any number of things as simple as condensation from the exhaust... or the stuff above.

Thanks again for the reassurance. I'll try not to be overly concerned when it happens again as it gets colder.
