Fuel Tank ?

My fuel tank gauge has never been correct. It reads empty and the tank only takes 11 gallons or so. My question is this, does my tank really have the maxium gallons and is just giving me a wrong reading, or is there something in the tank that is blocking the full ammount of fuel from going in (a reserve area or something)? thanks for any help

Same problem here. I've asked two dealers to look at it, neither fixed it.

Do you think when we top off do we have 16 gallons or 11?

It should be 16gallon. Your fuel sender may need to be replaced.

Is there any type of valve in the tank that can block a complete fill up?

If the gauge is not working how do you know that the tank is topping off at 11 not 16 or when it is completely empty.

It will give me miles to empty and then the warning light, the gauge works, just not accurate (unless fuel is being block on fill ups ). When it says 30 miles to empty, it only takes 11 gallons or so, so I do not want to experiment past empty just to see if there is fuel (in case it is being block from filling), I will ask dealer next time in, I just have been dealing with is so long I just forget to tell the dealer. It got a little bothersome on a recent road trip, I thought I once read somewhere that there is some sort of valve in the tank that can prevent a full fill up.

I've been through all that, 99% chances that all you need is to have it recalibrated (so said the tech at local dealer and he was right!). For that they need your car with the tank nearly empty and they will be adding 20liter portions and calibrate it at the same time with the PST2.

MOST I EVER PUT IN THE CAR...13 even... The deal is the tank has a dual tank design...it has a 3 gallon reserve or something...that doesnt count into the mileage i was told... just incase.

Can anyone verify that the tank has a 3 gallon reserve that does not count on the mileage, that would seem to be a big reserve

Wow that is weird! I know of a problem where if a certain fuse blows, it shuts off a safety flap in the tank blocking all but 5 gallons to be put in and reads complete empty , not your problem though! Goodluck man

I've had the gas pump stop prematurely a quite a few times. During these times I notice that less than 10 gallons were pumped into my tank. When I startup the car, the fuel gauage doesn't go all the way up to FULL and instead is a little less than a "section" lower than FULL. I too have forgotten to ask the dealer and I'm wondering if I have the same problem?

There is an update...if you bring your car to service they can correct it.

yep, i've experienced all of the issues above on my current road trip.

i thought Turbos only had a 12 gallon tank? and GT2's 16 gallon (b/c of lack of AWD crap)?
