Header question.

How much power if any does a header add if you are 600hp (crank) or under? I had a tuner tell me that it doesn't really do much until you're over 600hp. Any thoughts?

It is not really one of the weak links on the 996tt at 600 hp.

below 600 hp not a great upgrade. what would be worth while is having your current set ported and ceramic coated.

Yeah, an hour with a dremel tool can buy you 5-7 hp, I'm not a fan of ceramic coating....some good, some bad aspects.

Okay so explain this......several tuner show a 50hp gain between stage 3(550hp) and stage4(600hp). 3 without headers and 4 with headers. Are they just adjusting the fuel/boost levels? So what is the purpose of the headers?

stock headers must be debured (drummel work) they are small tubes and will help you 16s spool up faster. s cargo headers are a different design the larger tubes will allow a smother constant flow (more air more power) the smaller will compress the air and allow a better flow.... i would think better with a k24 set up....have heard of bent rods with the smaller tubes.... my thoughts only opps forgot to mention s cargo has a different design tube configuration....

I keep hearing bent rods mentioned at several points in the forum - so anybody willing to come out and confirm (along with what they were running when it happened)? Did this happen above 700 (GT700 and equivalent) levels with stock internals?

The guys who bent the rods were running too much boost...

The major difference between the EVO stage 3 and stage 4 is headers and software. The headers reduce turbo lag and increase the velocity of the exhaust gasses traveling to the turbochargers which improve overall power. The software is responsible for the remaining power gain between the 2 systems. Timing and boost are increased to improve power from the 550 HP to 600 HP. Boost goes from ~1.0 - 1.1 bar (stage 3) to ~ 1.2 bar (stage 4). Torque is also substantially increased from the more efficient headers and a more aggressive low to midrange boost curve. This programming change improves the overall torque as well as shifts the torque curve down lower in the RPM range making the engine more responsive. Hope this helps.
