I come from the s2000 world where a lot of people use this: http://modifry.com/products/rlb/index.htm

Rather than lights, you have audible beeps that occur in adjustable rpm increments leading up to redline. The good thing is that you can hide away the speaker under the dash, so the interior remains stock looking. Anyways, it doesn't look like there is anything preventing this from being used in the Porsche

You tap into the Tach lead just above the OBD2 port. It's the violet / green wire, then power and ground...very simple.

Yep,

I have the same one. Works very well. You can configure it so the lights come on at what every stagged set of RPMs you want. I have it set up so they don't start to come on until 6,000 RPMs and go to yellow, then red by 7,000 so it's helpful at the track when following someone with straight pipes and not annoying driving on the street at night.

I went with the Raptor LED shift light installed in the duct vent. I wired it to the #9 pin OBD2 tach and a switched and fused 12v battery line. Easily detectable with peripheral vision. I simply close the shutters at night to minimize brightness; very pleased how it turned out.

There is enough slack in the line I can pull it through the vent to change settings after I remove a couple of shutters. No need for full disassembly.

I think I want one of those as well. The new version.
We should do a group buy.
I'm in.

I have a small steering wheel which makes it really hard to see the tach.
