I finally think my original battery is on the way out after almost 5 years. Does anyone know of an ideal aftermarket replacement or should I just get a Porsche OEM one? Does any info get lost on the change like radio or anything? Thanks & Happy Thanksgiving to all.

 

Do not get the Porsche battery, they are utter crap. I am suprised you got 5 years out of it. Go to you local parts store, and pick up a group 48 battery for a fraction of the cost of a Porsche battery.

 

on my 01, i had to re-enter the code for the radio.........

if you can get a battery source (jump box?) to keep the juice constant, this might not happen.....

group 48 is a direct replacement. Go to Sears and get their
best, and be done with it. They have a great warranty, and their
installers are smart enough to supply a 12-volt supply via the
cigarette lighter while they are swapping the bettery so you never
lose power and never have to re-enter your radio code etc.

PS: Get a Porsche battery tender that plugs into the
cigarette lighter. I got a stock Porsche battery to last
5 years with it, and the Sears should last 7.

I have used the Porsche tender for years and that might partly be why it's lasted so long. Right now the light stays on all the time and i remember it used to cycle so maybe that confirms it. I prefer to do replacement myself than have Sears guys drop a wrench on the car.

 

I've seen size 48 batteries at Sam's, Costco and Walmart lately.

all the above is good advise from good people. My 2 cents is the best replacement battery is the dry cell optima red top. however for me I have chosen the weight reduction program and lost 35 pounds with my choice for my car seen below, however your results may vary!

Local dealer here in the Twin Cities recommendeds a non-OEM replacement as well, as someone else mentioned. Original died in my '03 C2 Coupe and no warranty honored due to "lack of miles", so dealer replaced with half OEM cost Interstate that has a warranty regardless of usage. Now I always keep the tender hooked up, even if sitting for a day or two between uses. Just bought an '03 Turbo and the battery was doing the same thing my C2 did a year ago, with similar mileage, so the dealer put the Interstate in that one as well. The OEM battery is horrible, but if used as a daily driver it seems to hold up well.

I may switch mine to a lighter dry cell over the winter, so sure to get in touch with supplier with the kit to make it a bolt-in and sane looking installation.
