2001 996tt or a 2007 audi RS4 ?

im going beetween these two cars in the next 6-9 months
theyre both amazing cars , but very different. they will not be primary cars, but will be driven at least 7000 miles per year....

what i like about the 996 is that its been a dream car of mine for a while, and thats it is a very mod happy car....

what i like about the RS4 is that it would be a brand new car, and the car has lots of engineering...

what i don't like about the 996tt is the fact that its not going to be as easy to drive around NYC because its so low
what i dont like about the RS4 is the fact that its a heavy car, and there are no mods to make it go faster, or handle better ...

what would you guys take and why ?

2 completley different cars.

If you dont have more than 2 kids, i would get the tt because it is your dream car and you dont need the seating. If you need the seating i would get the rs4 and since you live in NYC im guessing i would get the RS4. Overall, i would ge the 996tt, its a win-win situation

ive driven both, and although it hurts me to say it, the rs4 will hand a 996tt its *** as far as handling and grip are concerned.....

I got rid of my '04 S4 when I got my '02 turbo....granted I modded the hell out of mine, but even from the getgo it was a completely different ride. The Audi will be a lot torqier (word?) in the low end, handles great and has alot more room....I miss it. But every time I get in the turbo I smile.....

How many miles on the 01? Also by the time you pull the trigger you should be able to get a newer TT for the same $ as the Audi.

The TT will beat the **** out of you more on the NYC streets for sure.

Different cars, for different purposes. The 996tt is a 2+2 that you can mod to your hearts desire, and track if you want to. The RS4 is a true 4 seat, 4 door sedan. If you have children that you will be driving around routinely, then the 996tt will get old for that quickly with its very small rear seats. If not, you can get an '03 996tt for the cost of a new RS4, or an older one and spend the difference on mods.

The only real reason I can see you getting an RS4 over a TT is the warranty of a new car and the ease of driving in the city. If this isn't a primary car, you should definitely go TT all the way. I look at it like this...which car is going to make me smile more when I open my garage?? Porsche!!!

I have both. However, if i were to have only one car, the RS4 would be it. It's far more functional for everyday life, especially NYC where I lived for 2 years. Now if you have another car, get the 996TT without hesitation.

It seems the track times disagree with you.

Sport Auto tested both of them using the same driver, Horst Von Saurma. The 996TT beat it pretty badly:

AUDI RS4:
Nurburgring: 8:09
Hockenheim: 1:15.4
0-200 kph: 16.9

Porsche 996TT:
Nurburgring: 7:56
Hockenheim: 1:14.6
0-200 kph: 14.6

Agreed, the RS4 has amazing grip and that is what you feel, not so much the great 'handling' overall. I've driven both, stock suspension in the 996tt sucks and it was still flatter and better than the rs4 in most situations, except a sweeper or something where the 996tt gets wallowy in the rear. Both are awesome, rs4 is more comfy and useable, nice interior but doesn't feel that special and not that quick, its very decieving. I vote for the 996tt!

I wouldn't say heavy, but a nice setup yes (coilovers and swaybars)

Go check out an RS4 before you decide. Take a close look. Sit in it and drive it if they let you. I looked at one a couple of weeks ago and was thoroughly dissapointed. Personally, I would be much happier with a TT.
