High Flow Air Intake

I thought I heard some chatter a while ago the EVOMS was developing a high flow air intake for the 996TT. Any news on how it progressing?

Zippy,

The highest flow air intake is made by S Car Go Racing. I believe EVOMS has used many of them already.

The ScarGO intake (carbon fiber?) intake sounds great. I was a little concerned about the its reported brittleness. I was hoping something a little more resiliant was in the works.

Zippy,

The whole units weighs but ounces. If you smack it hard with something, it will break.

I just installed mine yesterday. The biggest issue is routing it and not forcing the unit in place. The area where it passes around the suspension is a close call. I actually wrapped that area with another piece of silicone hose. A set of hump pipes would work well with the setup rather than normal sleeve. The unit weight nothing, really. There is also a couple of halves that have to be glued, silicone etc. Nice unit, but you can not cram it or force it in to place. You will cause FOD in the turbo if you do. Also watch the drop link mount on the coilover setups. The arms often loosen up and move around. I would bet as close as the pipes are because of the diameter it would take one of these out. So watch out for that. The unit is a nice piece.

How do we deal with the ECU? I imagine the intake has a flow rate than stock. Is an ECU adjustment required? Would the AFR's be a little on the lean side if not richened up a bit?

jro is infamous around these parts
Any expectations set on HP/TQ gains? I assume that an engine drop is required to install the intake?

I am considering this mod, and I do not want to throw away my EVO Stage 4 ECU upgrade. Can this be upgraded to incorporate the intake?

The data logs I took last night and this afternoon are supporting the change is with in the swing of the adaptive control in the program. The system is spooling faster and my AFRs are still hitting target.

Stephen,

Others use aluminum which is a big heat sink. Still others use hoses. These have no heat sink, they are light, they have a larger diameter and they flow better.

Yep, they are a tight fit and a pain in the butt for rookies to install.
