New clutch break in period?
New clutch break in period?
Having a new clutch and LWFW installed. What is the normal break in procedure? I would like to do some drag racing this coming weekend but im not sure if the car will be ready for it. Advice needed, thx.
Go out and do some driving. Take the car up to about 60 mph in 3rd and then downshift to second, letting the clutch pedal out slowly until it is fuly engaged. Repeat 3 - 4 times. After the last one, keep the pedal in until you come to almost a complete stop. This will allow the plate and flywheel to cool down without havng the disc against it, reducing any chance of disc material transfering to the plate or flywheel.
Breakin in is now complete.
Remember, tho, after ALL hard use of the clutch. whether new or old, engaging the clutch immediatly afterwards with the car stoppped, can cause material to transfer to the plate and/or flywheel, increasing the likelyhood of chatter. This is one reason not to sit with your car in neutral at a stop light with the pedal out.
