Project of the year!
Chris,
Your car is stock, yes?
You have to at least chip her....will give you the cheapest 65 hp of your life. Get an exhaust and make it 100. After that it gets expensive.
Are you going to make sat night, assuming it doesn't rain?

Sean,
Yeah I should be. I'll know for sure tomorrow evening. If the rain looks like its going to blow through Saturday and stay away from our land I may go out there. Though it looks like I'll be there so I can mack on some of the girls! I just don't have the jealous girlfriend excuse
Edit* since it looks like it will be raining up there if it does, then I'll be in town regardless.

Stephen if you do come in and need a dyno for Robs car (since its 2wd) I'm 99% sure I can provide access to atleast one with A/F and everything for no charge. Luckly I have to friends that own shops with dynojets, well sort of, not so much for me anymore.

Rob,
Understand that I want your car fixed this weekend but I don't want to jepardize Stephen's trip down here. I'd really like to meet the guy.
Did your coolant temp rise during the low oil pressure episodes? If you truly had low oil pressure the engine would heat up fast. I'm thinking...hoping...praying that it is just the sender. I spoke to Akram (a very good Porsche certified mechanic) and he said the NA 996 has a history of oil pressure sender problems. They would fail intermittently, similar to what you described. He has not seen a 996TT with this problem, but there are a whole lot less TTs than NAs so there are fewer senders to fail.
Tomorrow we can try swapping my sender with yours and see if the problem is duplicated in my car. It is not that hard to get to and it has a copper crush washer that can be reused, so we don't have to worry about not having gaskets. The other option is to have the car scanned with a Porsche scanner and that will identify a faulty sender.
