Gas gauge problem?

My gas gauge is very temperamental, sometimes it reads zero gas is left, when I go to fill up it only take 9 gallons, sometimes it works fine (of course it never acts up around the dealer), anyone else here have problems with the gas gauge?

What year is your car? Because I think that there was a TSB for the gas gauge.

It is a (Technical Service Bulletin) and it did affect early 99-01 cars.

You need a software update.

If the battery ran down, you need to re caliberate the fuel gauge if at the time of the run down you had less than a full tank. You do this by filling the tank 100% after the battery has been recharged. The gauge will then reset and be correctly calibrated once the tank is refilled.

You might just want the dealer to hook up the PST2 and check what version of software you are running. Version 8.2 or higher.

Connect the PST2 and switch on the ignition,
Select vehicle type and select (996) and start search with >>
Select instrument cluster and press >>
Select modify coding and press >>
Select tank characteristic and update with FB.
Return to start menu and switch off PST2.

I would think Dr. Bill owes you at least a night out in NYC with one of his wife's friends for taking that car off his hands. Don't let him off the hook so easy and I have his home phone # in case he won't answer his cell.

ha ha, it’s not Bills fault the service dept at silver star didn't fix the problem / my experience with them sucked.

I've been told, but haven't seen for myself yet, that they are one of the best around.

Jim, Ron and I actually were out together last night - had a great time. Ron, had lots of fun at Marquee and looking forward to seeing you and John again. Dr Jim(aka Mr. Spacey), by the looks of your early Sunday morning post it looks like you had another wild and crazy all-nighter with the misses-both sleeping around 11 pm i assume (yawn)
