Wondering for guys who have modified their ECU programming without changing wastegates what boost you are seeing. Some guy on another site claims to have gotten his data from 6speed saying that no X50 cars can get over .9 bars unless they change wastegates.
My GT2 consistently got .9, and would occasionally see 1.0 & 1.1 with a REVO SPS3 program that is supposed to yield 1.2.
Then I upgraded the wastegates and now I get 1.1 - 1.2 consistently. I've even seen 1.3 once or twice.
Aside from the max boost increase, I also get more boost much earlier than I ever did before which makes WAY MORE torque.
If you're considering changing the wastegates... just do it!

I beg to differ. That is all.
I am going to ask a dumb question...so forgive me. Are wastegates and diverter valves the same thing????

The GIAC flash calls to tighten the stock wastegates on X50 cars. No matter who you get your flash from, the factory wastegate springs are weak and can not keep the exhaust pressure from forcing open the wastegates. This will result in low and uneven boost control.
Keep in mind that .9 BAR means .9 BAR power. Your friend is not getting any sizeable power increase from his flash.
IMO the wastegate mod (or EVO replacement wastegates) are mandatory on cars running over 1 BAR boost.
I felt a tremendous increase in midrange torque after the wastegate mod performed at the Speed Gallery. The car has much more midrange punch and stronger top end. I wasn't happy with my flash until Speed Gallery came to the rescue.

there is a difference between hitting a boost level and sustaining it... spikes should not count... ur true boost level is 4th gear pull sustained...

It sounds like there could be a simple explanation here... if GIAC calls for a tightening of the wastegate, that would explain why I can't get over 1 bar (CONSISTENTLY, not spikes. I can spike to 1.2 periodically, but I can't hold it).
So, it looks like most X50 owners see .9 bar stock, and then 1.1 after a flash and most likely a stock wastegate tightening.
One thing everyone seems to be in agreement on, though. Replacing the stock wastegate springs will allow higher boost alongside programming. I had a 1.4bar program installed, and couldn't get over .9 bar. I have 60k miles on my X50 car, so if anyone has weak springs it would be me!
