Will my dealer know my car is chipped?

Just wondering if I get an aftermarket chip and take my car in for a routine service, will they know my car is chipped?

I've heard that some dealerships have new ways of checking and frequently do, is this true?

By test driving they would be able to tell, and investigate more if they would like.

what about the difference between number of engine starts on one ECU compared to the stock if they are switched and then switched back? Or what about the clock run time on the engine vs. the ECU? What about the porsche sevice bulletin that describes how the ECU program can be checked for changes without physically going into the ECU?

How about if your dealer reads this forum and figures out who you are through your posts?

We already know there's at least one dealer reading threads here.

Why should your dealer care unless you are asking for a new engine? Just don't offer that you track the car if you want any warranty work, unless they are known to be cool with it.

It should be very easy for the dealer to tell - simply seeing more than 0.7 bar boost on a non x50 car would be a giveaway.......

That may be true with some chips, but, my chip was undetected. I asked Todd@Evo prior to purchasing and he stated that the chip is replicated so that all the information that was on your stck chip transmits to the computer. They looked hard for mods to my car, hooked it up to the computer several times, and came away with nothing. Granted they did not drive the car in which case they would have seen the 1.0 bar, but, the computer did not catch anything. As a matter of fact, the service advisor commented that they did not even detect one single over rev or abuse.

GIAC IBE chipswitch is a nice way around the detection problem...the stock EPROM and the data on it are never touched....all you have to do is remember to switch to stock mode before going to the dealer and hide that remote
