2002 996 TT Question

New owner of this 2002 996 TT. This morning on the way to work a green light on the speedo came on. According to the owner's manual it is the 'Automatic Speed Control'. Can someone explain what this feature is and how it may have come on?

Thanks and looking forward to learning all I can about this car.

I believe there is a speed control set on your on-board computer. You can change this by using the stalk on the left hand side and going through the menu.

Thanks for the insight. I didn't mess with it this morning, wonder how it came on? What is the purpose of this feature?

I use it for high speed runs in the country. You can set it at
any speed. I like to set it at 130 mph or 150 mph so I know when I
hit these speeds without looking at the speedo.

Does it stop you from exceeding that speed?

No, it is just a visual warning that you have exceeded a speed you entered into the computer.

The speed alert feature has an auditory signal.

Green light=cruise control doesn't it? My speed warning doesn't light up, it makes a sound. no visual warning.

Does the green light stay on or does it go on and off?

you guys are talking about two different things. I think Mike just hit the button on the end of the right stalk this activates the cruise control and turns it on.
the green light means its on and able to work. then you use the right stalk up or down to set the crusing speed as with any other car.
If you want it off just push in the button on the end of the stalk again and the green light will go away.

The other feature is set by toggling through the on board computer and enables you to "set" certain speed warnings so when you hit a certain speed it chimes to warn or alert you.

hope this helps....tom

I'll check this afternoon when I get in the car to make sure the light is off.
