Engine hesitates when hitting 1.3 - 1.5 bar

2003 X50 with the following modifications: GIAC computer tune, new diverter valves, and EVO wastegates. The car ran beautifully and STRONG the first 2-3 weeks. It pulled like a freight trian! Today, while going WOT, I saw peaks of 1.3 to 1.5, coupled with what felt like engine hesitation. It felt sort of like the Tiptronic transmission was slipping, or it was not getting enough fuel or air. The car would hesitate, then pull, then hesitate again, then pull. The check engine light came on for about 20 seconds, then went off.

I spoke with my tuner and he thinks that there isn't enough fuel for the boost that is being generated. As a result, the engine management/knock sensor is retarding the engine. He will be emailing me instructions to re-adjust the wastegates this weekend to see if that fixes the problem.

What do you guys think? Any input would be appriciated. Thanks.

I agree with Markski. Your Tip can handle 600 hp with ease.

How difficult is it to change the plugs? I'm assuming if I can change the plugs in a V-8, I can change them on a H-6, right? Thanks for the input guys. I love this site. Where can I get the plugs and are the Bosch 6's GL what I should get?

Unless you have upgraded turbos AND an upgraded fuel system AND bigger turbos AND GTXXX software, you are doing yourself a dis-service running anything more than 1.2 BAR sustained boost.

You will damage your turbos and engine or both.

If you are not intending to run that kind of boost and feel that the car is boosting out of control, the culprit is likely a blown off or cracked wastegate boost signal hose. These get damaged easily when pulling them off to upgrade your wastegates.

They are the bosch fr6 plugs You can pick them up from EVOMS.com directly or call Steve at Imagine Auto they got me mine and regapped them for me to .025 GL was Good Luck! and if you got small hands, plugs take about 1 1/2 hours. At least the mechanics I go to did it in that time. Some people will take apart the whole rear of your car to do this job. ICSPERFORMANCE.COM

and that's what I have in my car.

Definetly the throttle body is shutting downand that is why you are getting the surging.Turn down the waste gates and change your plugs for good measure.

If your car run fine before and now..1.3-1.5bar, TB is shutting down but for a reason! I dont think turning down the WGs will help. Your wastegate are not opening enough. Maybe a boost leak or the boost pressur control is the problem...

Good luck

Who is your tuner ? and what did they say about the symptoms ?

It sounds like possible multiple malidies.

good luck, I am certain you will sort it out.

use the bosch fr6 plugs. Only reason I say this is cause for your mods its proven to work. Why screw with something that works perfectly. IMO

Denso's are cool but I have friends with many issues with them (lasting a month). I run NGK iridiums 6's on my cayehhe turbo stage 2 so I am a fan of iridium but not on the 996 turbo.
